This video explains waht is hogging and sagging. It covers the importance of knowing it and how to determine if the ship is hog or sag through her drafts.
Hogging occurs when the ship’s middle portion (amidships) is lifted higher than its bow and stern. This happens when excessive weight is loaded at the fore and aft parts of the ship, causing the amidships section to rise. The uneven cargo distribution, with a large amount of weight concentrated toward the ends, increases buoyancy at amidships, leading to hogging.
Sagging is the opposite of hogging, occurs when the ship’s bow and stern rise, while the middle or amidships portion sinks lower. This happens when excessive weight is concentrated in the midsection of the ship, causing it to sink lower. Poor cargo distribution, such as heavy cargo stowed amidships, while the bow and stern remain light, reduces buoyancy at midship, leading to sagging.

This video covers Radar motion displays. It shows the difference between True & Relation Motion with the ship's trails and vectors.
In True Motion, own ship moves across the radar screen in its true direction of movement, and targets move according to their actual paths. It displays the actual movement of both own ship and all targets relative to a fixed reference, usually the ground or earth. All stationary targets, such as landmasses, buoys, or anchored vessels remain fixed in position on the radar screen.
In Relative Motion display, all other targets appear to move relative to our ship. Even stationary targets, such as buoys, landmasses, or anchored vessels, appear to move relative to own ship's position.

This animated video explains initial metacentric height, center of gravity, and buoyancy. It also shows how the ship floats and the three conditions of the ship's equilibrium. How the righting lever and righting moment were created, and how the angle of the loll formed.
The metacentric height (GM) of a ship is a crucial parameter that determines its stability characteristics, particularly its resistance to rolling motions in response to external forces such as waves, wind, and cargo shifting. It is a measure of the distance between the center of gravity (G) of a ship and its metacenter (M).

How to tie the Water Bowline knot 🥨 : (Vulcan method). I really like this knot because, well, I like super-charged knots, and this is a bowline with a bit of extra spinach.

It's really useful for tying off your 🚤 tender to the dock (a Bowline knot can slip if it's pushed and pulled) . It's called the Water Bowline because it likes getting wet. Perfect!

If you use the Vulcan method, (see our video how to tie a Spock Bowline as well), it's dead easy.

First off, make that Vulcan Salute 🖖 and remember to mutter "Live Long and Prosper" under your breath. Not too loud otherwise the other yachties might start staring at you.

Now loop your working end round your 3rd and 4th fingers like you would in the Bowline. Now make another loop around your 1st and second fingers.

If you are tying off to a ring, this would be a good time to feed it through and back.

Now you are just going to get your 🐰 rabbit (working end) up and down 2 holes instead of one. Easy! When you come back round the standing end, just follow the line back and you have your turbo-charged Bowline. If a dinghy drifts off the dock, I bet it's not yours, you'll be the one smirking over a cold beer.
This may be the answer to making diesel engines more environmentally friendly (or at least help in that direction for those with a diesel engine). This Sea Go oil pump saves engine oil from going in the bilge and subsequently into the ocean every time we service our engine (Which should be every year or at the specified hours of running time...*(check your manual for this).

The first job on our new build yacht project and were doing it with an iPhone 15 Pro!
The plan is to use the phone to scan a very unique keel for this aluminium lift keel yacht!
With only two other boats like ours in the world, we tracked one down to Scotland and had 1hr to scan her keel in order to make our own mould. The pressure was on as this was a one hit wonder…
We share our findings using 3D scanning app Polycam, show the differences we found between LiDAR and Photogrammetry along with a helpful tip we got from the pros.
