We Found a Diesel Leak While Painting our Aluminum Hull
In this episode, we're tackling a few big jobs below the waterline. We start with sanding and repainting the bottom of our 78' aluminum trawler, Tangaroa-an essential part of maintenance when you live aboard. But things quickly escalate when we discover bubbling paint on the bootstripe. Turns out, we didn't prep it properly last time. Blaine has to grind off the entire stripe and redo it from scratch. Just when we think we've seen it all, we spot a troubling diesel leak coming from a weld seam in one of our fuel tanks. That means welding-on an active diesel tank. What could go wrong? We walk through how we assess the risk, what precautions we take, and how we pull off the repair safely.
