Sailing Portpatrick May 2025 and mooring at harbor wall EP31
Every year for my birthday, we set sail from Bangor to Portpatrick on our traditional all-men's trip. Why just men? Well, Portpatrick isn't exactly popular with the ladies - mainly because getting ashore involves climbing up a vertical ladder. So, it's become a bit of a lads-only destination... and let's just say, with no women around to keep things in check, some of the crew might overdo it at the local pubs! ? In this video, we not only share the trip but also explain how to moor in a tidal harbour like Portpatrick. ?? We use a vertical line, inflatable fenders, and a wooden plank - all key elements to keep the boat safe and accessible. ? If you're looking for a more detailed walkthrough of the approach into Portpatrick, check out what might be the very first video on the channel - it's still super helpful! ? Don't forget to like, drop a comment if you've had similar adventures, and subscribe for more nautical fun with a touch of good old sailor's wisdom! 00:00 - Trip begins 00:21 - Departure from Bangor 03:18 - Unexpected boarding! 03:43 - Aerial views of the Copeland Islands 04:49 - Entering Portpatrick 07:31 - How to moor on a tidal wall with a ladder 08:41 - Exploring Portpatrick 10:34 - Night reboarding at low tide 11:29 - How to pay for the marina in Portpatrick 12:10 - Farewell to Portpatrick (aerial shots) 12:56 - Sailing back: Portpatrick to Bangor 14:41 - Arrival in Bangor and pontoon mooring
