A deep dive into the first part of the roll tack. How to get the boat turning towards the wind without relying on your rudder. From a close-hauled course, experiment with leeward heel. What is the minimum needed to get your boat turning towards the wind? Remember to allow the rudder to move. Try squeezing your mainsheet in, does this help the boat to turn? During this phase move slightly to maintain any heel and get setup for crossing the boat. Feel when the power comes out of the sail this when the flick happens and will be the next bit to practice.
