Solo sailing through the Caribbean in the height of hurricane season definitely wasn't on my bingo card, but we've found ourselves here and must roll with the punches. After a broken windlass and a hectic schedule got the better of me, I stupidly decided to stay on the "comfort" of a mooring ball here in Portsmouth, Dominica to brave the storm, that was a terrible mistake. I should've sailed south days before the storm arrived. Mooring lines snapped, boats were lost. I could've lost my boat. I am very lucky. I hope that 2 meter swell in the anchorage is something I never experience again. Consider the healthy fear of storms well acquired now.
