Welcome back to sailing NV, where we're about to haul out our Open 66 which we've been sailing around the world on as a family for the last 2 years, after a giant 2 year refit in Fiji converting her into a fast family cruiser. But now thanks to an unexpected gearbox failure, we need to haul the boat out of the water to replace the sail drive? not an easy task when cruising in remote parts of Asia with a 4.2metre keel. After finally finding a potential yard in the north of Borneo, we travelled 1500nm through pirate territory and reefy areas to meet the yard owner to discuss our options in person. With a bit of persuasion it sounded like he was willing to let us try and agreed to let us to dig a pit in the yard to put our keel in so that we wouldn't be sat so high out of the water. There's a lot of logistics involved in hauling out a boat like ours, not only finding a yard with the right depth for our extreme keel, and a big enough travel lift with straps the right length to get us above ground level, but we also have to plan carefully how to sit the boat safely so high out of the water and in this case we really wanted to dig a pit 00:00 - Intro 00:45 - Update - good news 01:38 - Logistics involved 01:57 - Emptying the boat 02:17 - Folding sails 03:59 - Storage hunt 04:24 - The sailing community comes to the rescue 05:40 - Typhoon 06:47 - Emptying the bath! 08:13 - 4WD to the storage location 09:55 - The Gumby boat! 11:07 - Measuring the depth of the haul out basin 13:07 - Measuring distances on the dock 14:12 - Change of plans 16:22 - Measuring again 16:48 - Measurements for the pit planning ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you'd like to support us on Patreon, our website https://www.patreon.com/SailingNV or with a one-off donation via https://ko-fi.com/sailingnv or paypal https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/sailingnv or if you'd like to help us buy something we need, you can check out our amazon wish list https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1G2NJ0EGJLKR0?ref_=wl_share THANK YOU!!!
