How do YACHT WINCHES work?

Servicing Lewmar, Enkes and Gibb winches in this episode! Work continues refitting our abandoned sailboat. This time it's all about the winches. We all know self tailing winches are crazy expensive so if we can save the winches which came on the boat that would be amazing. We explain how to strip down and re-assemble our Lewmar, Enkes and Gibb winches and discover they're absolutely usable We are Andy, Melissa and Jack, a sailing family based in North Wales, and for the past couple of years we have been looking for a bluewater sailing yacht to take us around the world. Well we've finally found her. Our new sailing yacht is a John Teal designed 38ft Steel Pilothouse Cutter. She has been standing ashore for at least 15 years and now we're embarking on the huge challenge of refitting her and doing her up ready to go sailing around the world.
