Ep 117 - Experiencing A Cut-Off Low | Sailing South Africa - East London to Port Elizabeth
Join us aboard Sailing Excelsior as we set off from East London, heading south along South Africa's dramatic and unpredictable coastline. What begins as a dream passage-calm seas, spinnaker sailing, and unforgettable encounters with sharks and one of the largest dolphin pods we've ever seen-soon becomes a test of seamanship. Brendan braves an icy dive to scrape barnacles from the hull before we settle into an overnight spinnaker run. But things take a turn on day two when an un-forecast cut-off low pressure system sweeps in, bringing 30+ knot winds and building seas. Forced to prioritize safety, we make the tough call to divert to Port Elizabeth. Will we make it into port safely? Note: Apologies for glitchy transitions and poor voiceover quality. Due to the loss of our MacBook we had to use a new editing program that isn't up to scratch. We'll be exploring other editing software options soon. But in the meantime, thanks for bearing with us while we navigate the tech setbacks and keep the episodes coming - however rough they may be! And please don't forget to: ?
