It seemed appropriate to sail around the island of Tenerife since Dan was visiting me and Galopin. Before setting off for the circumnavigation, we visit one more spectacular site named Masca. Then we get on to sailing, having a try flying the big orange spinnaker. All does not go all that well bringing down the spinnaker and our anchorage is challenging. On the north east coast of Vancouver Island is Port McNeill and North Island Marina. In this episode me and Eddy flies to Holland to look at the Beneteau Oceanis 44 cc, the Colvic Victor 40, the Carter 45 and the Jeanneau Eclipse 33 before we fly to Scotland to see the North Wind 47, Amy Rose. They were all good boats with pros and cons. Asking price were if I remember correctly: Beneteau Oceanis 44 CC - 75.000 Euros Colvic Victor 40 - 79.000 Euros Carter 45 - 125.000 Euros - but would accept offers of 95.000 Euros Jeanneaus Eclipse 33 was around 65.000 Euros I think The North Wind 47 was around 110.000 Punds The Beneteau has a lovely sheltered helm which is off centered which makes the small cockpit open and nice. The problem with this boat is the claustrophobic saloon with the curved sofa that is impossible to lay down in. The Colvic Victor 40 was beautiful on the inside. The previous owner had invested lots of time and money to get it right. I also show some photos of another boat not so well built. The Jeanneau Eclipse 33 we entered just for fun. A 33 foot boat is way to small as a liveaboard for 2 people with guests, but this model blew my mind. It was really spacious for it's size. But still, not big enough. Had it been a 40 foot boat it would have been the perfect layout with maybe one more cabin. The Carter 45 was my favorite. I loved the boats interior, however on the inside it needed a lot of TLC. Unfortunately I could not match the asking price with all the repairs needed We also looked at the North Wind 47, Amy Rose, in Scotland. A beautiful boat with classic lines to it. This also means it is not as roomy on the inside as you would expect from a 47 foot sailboat. Unfortunately there were also damage to the interior from previous leeks. In this video I share what I have learned about powering a boat with solar panels. I talk about solar panels, batteries, dealing with cloudy weather, and possible back-up solutions for solar.

Our offer was accepted on a Morgan 382! The boat is in fabulous condition, but still needs a bit of work. Fortunately she doesn’t need repairs, just finishing. Kirk and I do kind of like the idea of finishing out the systems ourselves. The woodworking, on the other hand, couldn’t be further above our heads. The level of craftsmanship of the interior (which the owner has spent the last ten years redoing) is way beyond our skill set. We come to an agreement with Jack, the owner/seller: He finishes the woodworking projects before closing, and we finish the rest. With a month to go before closing, Kirk and I aren’t about to sit around twiddling our thumbs. We dive headfirst into our list of projects for the boat. Our biggest items include plumbing the freshwater system and designing a propane system. A few weeks into our work in the yard, we learn some terrible news. When we set off this season, Tonga was on the list but it was heavily overshadowed by the likes of French Polynesia, Marquesas and the Cook Islands. The focus was on places like Bora Bora, Mo'orea and Aitutaki. So let me tell you, we were very surprised by how much we LOVE Tonga. LOVE! Tonga is a Sovereign nation and the first of such we have visited in our Pacific Island tour. It has a different vibe. An authentic one. With 196 islands, only 36 are inhabited. You can can catch a bit of island life or truly get away from it all. In this Adventure, we land in the Vava’u group in the town of Neiafu to check in with customs. The town is a bustling place with markets full of fish and veg. Crazy little Chinese shops stuffed with everything you could need. And a Moorings charter fleet that helps the economy sustain many friendly Yachty bars and restaurants. We were hooked right away and decided that this is where we would spend the last couple months of our season before heading south to get away from cyclone territory. The beauty of the Tongan Kingdom is stunning. The beaches are pristine and the people welcoming to their villages. Follow along as we test our limits while free diving in and around Mariner’s and Swallow’s Caves, skim the warm waters in some of the best kite boarding sessions we have had to date. Not to mention the creepiest of spiders with a weird golden web. The Kindom of Tonga holds a very special place in our heart. Hi Everyone, The hood (bonnet) struts on the 996TT have been failing and getting to the point that, when cold, will clock you on your noggin! Not fun… In this episode I go through the super easy process of replacing them. Works on porsche 996/986 911/Boxster The pair isn’t expensive and total time is less than 10min! Tools and parts: • Porsche 986 996 Front Hood Strut (set 2) OEM Stabilus https://goo.gl/6gC4uX • Small screwdriver • Hood Prop • Cleaning rag • Dab of grease. • Safety glasses Most modern cars are similar - just hunt down the correct struts and you are all set!
