I arive on my mooring ball in Porto Pollensa just as the wind sets in. The first night I go into town and find an old friend who takes me to a Tapas restaurant opening. Then the wind comes for real. Constant winds of up to 60 knots, but man, the gusts! One boat was not as lucky... After I was finished editing this video I see something very disturbing about the beached boat that I completely missed when I was there. Do you see it? This was a fun passage, just ask Annie how good this small part of our journey from the Med back to Australia really was.

We sail for The Loyalty Islands about 100 nautical miles from Grande Terre (the mainland of New Caledonia). We encountered ideal conditions for several hours and had a dream sail with the main and code zero speeding us along at 8-9 knots. The wind increased later and we had an unfortunate experience with our Code 0. The people of the Loyalty Islands are mostly Melanesian or Kanaks, who live in tribal villages, groups set up by the Protestant and Catholic churches and led by tribal chiefs. All the land is customary estate owned by clans and families that cannot be sold or parted with. Lifou is the largest of all three islands, it has 3 custom districts the same as Ouvea. We, the largest town is the administrative centre for all the Loyalty Islands. After a few days relaxing on the island of Lifou, we moved on to the coral atoll of Ouvea. Ouvea had been in the news lately for an attack on a Superyacht from a group of people armed with machetes and guns. So we were expecting things to be a bit tense. The people we met were very friendly and helpful and our experiences were very positive.

It’s finally starting to feel like we’re cruising! In this episode, we prep for our longest sail yet: 190 miles from St. Joseph Point to Clearwater. We give you a peak inside our ditch kit, install a MOB (man overboard) device in each of our lifejackets, and test our PLB (personal locating beacon). Then, we set sail! We have an amazing downwind wing-on-wing daysail to our overnight anchorage, spend a horrible night on the hook and wake up early to get tossed around in rolly seas. The first part of our passage is marked by visits from dozens of dolphins, and we don’t see another ship for over 24 hours while crossing the Gulf of Mexico, all alone. Hope you enjoy! My first question to Brian “But how will you get it out though the braking waves?” It's 7PM and blowing 30 knots- the rain is dumping and all of a sudden we hear - “DELOS…DELOS…we lost our dingy!” Our lovely neighbors that we'd met earlier that day had LOST their DINGY. After a search mission in Maggie we managed to find it on the opposite side of the bay. The only problem, it’s washed up on a gnarly stone beach with big braking waves. So the rescue mission starts! Mais uma reforma no barco, antes mesmo de ir para água. Desta vez estou refazendo a tampa do paiol da bateria. A princípio iria deixar as baterias dentro da embarcação mas, devidos aos vapores tóxicos emitidos pela bateria de chumbo, resolvi deixar do lado de fora mesmo. E para isso tive que fazer uma tampa melhor, para que a água escorra pelas lsterais.
