Tuamotu atolls are basically big rings of coral with lovely lagoons inside, they offer amazing protection for both yachts and sea-life, the tricky part is you have to enter and exit through tiny passes or breaks in the coral ring. Water rushes in and out of these passes often at huge speeds causing breaking waves, hence you must time your arrival or leaving time with a slack tide and even then it can be crazy scary! The atoll of Rangiroa was by far the most hair raising of all the passes we did, it pretty much always has breaking waves, but the other thing it always has is dolphins playing in those waves! We had so much fun watching them, snorkeling through the passes and inside the lagoon at the famous 'aquarium', its' shallow, full of coral and fish and literally like going snorkeling in an aquarium. Rangiroa also had quite a few nice restaurants and resorts being one of the more populated Tuamotus. We are the Robbins family sailing on our boat named Nikau. We are a family of 5. Our 3 kids are doing NZ correspondence school on board. They are growing to love it! What's not to love about 3 hours of school a day and then a different playground for the afternoon every day! We've traveled from New Zealand to Sardinia in Italy to pick up our boat and we plan over a few seasons to sail her back to New Zealand. We hope you enjoy following us on our adventures! In this episode of Tool Making Bob makes a strike-able awl with a olive wood handle and brass ferrule. An awl is an important tool for any boat builders toolbox let alone any craftsman It's really an essential tool that everyone needs. I've always had a Stanley awl which has worked really well for me. One of the thing I like about it is that the metal shaft runs through the handle. I can strike it with an hammer with out damaging the handle. So one would be able to punch leather or things like that. I'd be looking for a small lathe project and decided that an awl would be a great small project. I made this awl with and olive wood handle, a brass ferrule, and a tapered polished shaft. Some hair-raisingly close crosses between Oman Air and Alinghi summed up just how tight the battle for supremacy is between these two top-flight teams duelling each other at the 38 Copa del Rey MAPFRE, third event of the 2019 GC32 Racing Tour. Adam Minoprio might have again steered the Omani boat to three victories from five heats today, but Arnaud Psarofaghis notched up a cleaner set of results to close in on their rivals by a single point on the leaderboard. Watch the action from Day 3 unfold.

Join me in the beautiful county of Dorset for some sight seeing. We Paddle Board in Kimmeridge Bay and learn about marine conservation and UK coral. Plus we go crabbing in Swanage, kayak to Old Harry's Rocks in Studland Bay and see SV Tenacious arriving in Poole. All mingled with the fun and silliness of Summer Breeze. Including of course the classic boat beer review, but this time on a paddle board. This was filmed while Summer Breeze was out of the water having her swing keel sand blasted, epoxied and anti-fouled. This gave me the opportunity to look at the condition of the prop and discover that the anode was nearly completely destroyed in just 3 months. I replace the anode and also coat the prop and shaft in prop shield, all of which are featured in this film.

We sail back to Gillingham from Ramsgate with sore heads, while making a pot noodle at a 30 degree angle and sampling Sharp's Sea Fury beer. Before all that we check out the Ramsgate Wetherspoons for a bit of breakfast and only then do we check out of the marina via Port Control. It's a long beat back with a lot of tacking to keep us busy. Upwind sporty sailing all the way home. Enjoy the fun and silly sailing on 'Summer Breeze' a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 292 situated on the muddy medway. If sailing isn't fun, you aren't doing it right!

We fly from Auckland to Sorong in West Papua and move onboard the Indonesian Siren dive liveaboard boat. . We meet up with our friends Penny, Peter and trip directors Ed and Shu for 11 days of absolutely awesome diving around the Raja Ampat Archipelago. We dive with sharks, Mantas, turtles, barracuda, bat-fish and octopus to name a few. There are too many fish to mention, let alone count!. Patrick Childress Sailing demonstrates how to Repair, Rebuild, Replace our Yanmar 4JH3E marine Heat Exchanger & exhaust Riser on our cruising sailboat. Also, how to insulate the new marine exhaust riser on our Yanmar 4JH3 Diesel engine. the old insulation was asbestos, but this new exhaust wrap is not. In this sailboat repair video, sailor Patrick Childress removes the old heat exchanger and the marine exhaust riser and brings it to a heat exchanger shop recommended to us called Empengani Progress, close to Richards Bay South Africa. They say they can rebuild the Heat Exchanger to like new condition. A new marine heat exchanger from Yanmar would cost $3000-$4000. Yanni Enterprises in Zululand Yacht Club boat yard made us a new exhaust riser out of 316 and 304 Stainless steel. It wasn’t cheap, but it was very well made and needed very little coercion to fit it back on to the heat exchanger of our Yanmar 4JH3E Diesel engine. Empengani Progress shows how to take apart the heat exchanger. They then cleaned it all out, welded and rebuilt deteriorated parts of the Corroded cap on the heat exchanger, reusing the core, and then put it all back together again,pressure tested it, and then charged us a very reasonable rate too! Much cheaper than a new heat exchanger! it is always difficult to decide whether to replace or repair a heat exchanger. Once the new exhaust riser was fabricated, Patrick reinstalls it. Because Patrick had removed all of the asbestos insulation on the old marine riser, we had to find a new material to insulate the new exhaust riser, and find out how to insulate a marine riser. There were many Yanmar spare parts that we needed for this rebuild, and we fell back on our old source in the USA, Toad Marine Supply (aka MarineDieselDirect.com, LaserSailingDirect.com, SunfishDirect.com, BoatDollyDirect.com, and Torresen Marine Inc). They are always responsive to emails, and double check everything with part diagrams to be sure we are all talking about the same engine part. They ship Yanmar, Westerbeke, Universal and Volvo Penta Diesel engine spare parts all over the world, as well as other marine supplies, very quickly and very correctly. This is a snapshot of just some of the locations we stopped at on Annecam in the Mediterranean. It was fun little exercise putting this one together, only wished that we had used the video camera a bit more in the early days.

We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat Ran, a custom built Beason 40 in aluminium and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter in January 2016. I work my way westward along the leeward coast of Maui. I anchor a couple times along the way in search of the perfect spot and the anchor continues to foul up on rocks. I finally find a great spot in front of Lahaina. I row ashore in the explorer 200 dinghy and check out the town.
