American George David's Rambler 88 took monohull line honours in the Royal Ocean Racing Club Rolex Fastnet Race this morning, finishing in 1d 19h, just over an hour outside the course record. It's the third consecutive time that Rambler 88 has taken line honours, but she's yet to win the race overall, and in this clip George David reflects on his disappointment, but he also described rounding the Fastnet Rock in almost identical conditions, at a similar time of day, to 2011 when his Rambler 100's keel fell off and the yacht capsized. An emotional moment for him, remembering his rescue, that of his wife and 19 other crew, and reconnecting this weekend once again with the rescue services that came to their aid. Watch this - a reminder that this hard-fought race makes deep memories and bonds, even among crews that do big events worldwide all the time. The Forbidden Coast | 73 | Beau and Brandy Sailing After that long sail to the Southern coast of Hati, all we wanted to do was sleep. But we stayed up to take in all the warm welcome from the locals. Some were looking for jobs others were selling fruit but the young boys were just looking to fight boredom. After assigning a few jobs and handing out some snacks we bought just for the kids, we crashed. The next morning we were promptly woken by the gentleman that we hired for some much need Saoirse TLC. Then we gave away all the donations we received in George Town, BS. The next morning we were told to move as we were in the path of the regatta. Once we moved we had front row seats to a spectacular racing tradition. Then we had the village boys over for movies and snacks. We had Jasmin bring us over a hot traditional Haitian meal. U23 Finn World Championship, Anzio July 14-20, the British competitors

Race 8 of the frosties was the second race on race day 4. It was once again sailed in dull rainy condition with a light breeze from the north east. For the second race in a row there was a large wind shift during the starting sequence which resulted in the pin end of the start line being heavily favoured. Two boats were brave enough to attempt a port had start, with "Go to Red" (mumm 36 racing yacht) crossing the fleet of port tack after defending the pin end of the start lined from "What's the Rush 2". With the size of the Wind shift "Go To Red" was able to deploy her Code Zero head sail shortly after the start, this allowed her to power her way to the first mark while the rest of the fleet slowed each other down as they tried to find a a clear lane to the first mark. The code zero powered "Go To Red" to victory making up for the poor showing in race 7. There are still 3 boats in the running for the overall win coming into the last race for the series. Finishing the 605nm course in 1 day 4 hours 2 minutes, the 30.5-metre (100-foot) French Ultime trimaran eclipsed the previous race record by some four hours. Out on the course, monohull Line Honours continues to be contested by three Maxis – the the 30.5-metre (100-foot) Scallwag, the Volvo 70 Wizard and the 27 m (88 ft) Rambler. The 32m long Ultim trimarans laid on a spectacular finish in this 48th Rolex Fastnet Race resulting in MACIF, the leader since rounding the Fastnet Rock earlier this morning, being beaten to the finish line in the last breath of the race by her arch-rival Maxi Edmond de Rothschild. As Maxi Edmond de Rothschild’s skipper Franck Cammas explained: “Just after they gybed onto the layline for the finish we crossed them and decided to overlay. It was our last chance to see if there was something still possible. But until five minutes before we finished we never thought it was possible!” For their endeavours the Maxi Edmond de Rothschild crew won the Rolex Fastnet multihull trophy and were presented with a Rolex timepiece, ashore at Plymouth Yacht Haven. #RolexFastnetRace Gitana Team Macif Course au Large

Race 7 of the 2018 Frosties Regatta was over before it started for the crew on Go To Red. With light winds on Strangford lough and a heavily biased pin end starting line after there was a big shift in the breeze during the starting sequence Go To Red (Mumm 36 racing yacht) ran into issues after miss judging their time on distance run towards the pin end of the start line. This miscalculation resulted in them being on course side (over the starting line) when the starting gun went. After recrossing the line to restart the race there was little change to catch up with the sprint series format. Once again proving how important it is to start any yacht race well. With seven races of the Frosties over it was all still to play for with only a couple of points separating the top 3 yachts in the overall.

Este vídeo poderia se chamar "O primeiro Pirajá a gente nunca esquece". Eu estava bem tensa com a possibilidade do famigerado Pirajá! Já saímos de Angra avisados sobre os ventos fortes e tormentas de mar. E que, pior, eles aconteciam à noite, quando a gente menos esperava e pouco se via. Saímos de Vitória bem tensos e com os pedidos do Caboges "vocês que vão na frente, avisem se virem pirajás a caminho. Achei que ia encontrar o Curupira marítimo! Fiquei pensando, pela fama que eles tinham, que me barco seria açoitado por ondas enormes geradas pelos pirajás e que as velas enfrentariam rajadas de mil nós de ventos e se rasgariam com a tormenta causada por eles. Passei uma noite de tensão. Molhou, ventou, rizamos velas no meio da noite, mas acho que as minhas expectativas estavam (para variar) um pouco acima da realidade. Sobrevivemos aos pirajás e, sim, é desconfortável ver as estrelas se apagando e sentir um ventão trazendo uma chuva forte, mas tão rápido quanto chega ele se vai e o trabalho de rizar a vela parece uma pegadinha. Assim que acabamos de rizar ele já passou. rs Depois de uma noite de tensão esperando um pirajá atrá do outro (e foram vários, tipo Tele Sena, de hora em hora), na manhã seguinte viera os golfinhos. Eu confesso que me arrisquei, corri para a proa sem amarras e me deitei olhando pra eles e gritando porque tinha certeza que eles estavam me ouvindo! Pode parecer coisa de louca, mas tenho certeza absoluta de que eles sabiam da minha presença assim como eu me encantava com a deles! Foi muito especial!
