Airlie Beach Race Week is over for another year so we at the "World on Water" can look back with the Race organisers at the highlights. We had cameras in helicopters, on-board the top boats and Wasp NQ had cameras on the water. Here is our report.

This week we spend a bit of time as a family off the boat and in the camper. We had a great time. Swab and I got back into the routine of having our Saturday morning date day. We went to Starbucks in downtown Fort Myers. While having our coffee, Swab asked if she could go to "City Hall." I know, right? Where does she get this stuff? But I took her to the downtown court building, and we found an enormous banyan tree. We played around in that for a little while. Then we returned and spent some time at the pool and game room with the girls later that day. I relaxed with some good coffee, and as you all know, I like my coffee. My sails is renovated by a sailmaker in Aarhus Denmark due to some small repairs. The genua is then almost ready to mount but before that I seal of a small hole in one of the sail pocket on the genua. Info from the seldén furlex manual : 1. Tension the forestay for hard close-reach sailing before the sail is hoisted. 2. Turn the tack ring counter-clockwise if the furling line exits on the port side of the drum. 3. When line exits on the port side of the line drum, the sail should be hoisted in the starboard groove. Note: The Swedish made instrument is in the next video.

One of the great beauties of these boats is that the ballast keel is fitted towards the end of the build, enabling the boat to be kept lower in the shed for most of the construction time. A glassy, moonlit overnight passage took us from Moorea to Huahine, reputedly the only island Captain James Cook would recognise if he were to come back today. Huahine is nicknamed the 'Garden of Eden' for good reason, its lush hills are encircled by a ring of reef over which giant surf constantly breaks making this a surfing, diving and hiking paradise. We loved the huge variety of tropical fish and crystal clear water and enjoyed the famous Sunday afternoon island feast at Chez Tara. We are the Robbins family sailing on our boat named Nikau. We are a family of 5. Our 3 kids are doing NZ correspondence school on board. They are growing to love it! What's not to love about 3 hours of school a day and then a different playground for the afternoon every day! We've traveled from New Zealand to Sardinia in Italy to pick up our boat and we plan over a few seasons to sail her back to New Zealand. We hope you enjoy following us on our adventures! After a few tries, I manage to locate the offending hole in the bottom of the main water tank. After cleaning things up, I slather it with 3M 5200, and we seem to be watertight again. But I won't let a leaking water tank dampen my party spirit, and I make it out to the open mic night at Carpenter Street Saloon in St. Michaels, Maryland. Our sail down the US West coast continues and in this episode it's time for us to go around the infamous Point Conception. We spend a couple of days cruising the channel islands, San Miguel and Santa Cruz looking at caves and sea elephants. We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat Ran, a custom built Beason 40 in aluminium and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter in January 2016. Sailing again after a short break on the mainland. Weighing anchor in the tight harbor was a bit of a challenge but I got out alright. I sail through some light winds when suddenly the wind flips 180° and strengthens. I make it safely to Honolua bay after beating to windward for several hours. I start to plan my trip to Oahu. We left Vanuatu with a little concern about safety in Papua New Guinea as many government websites warned about unsafe conditions. We also considered going via Australia, but that did not make much sense. When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised with Port Moresby city skyline and nice Royal Papua Yacht Club. Our main goal was to get Indonesian Visa here as in a week starts our Indonesian Rally. Meanwhile we explored surroundings – Ela Beach, Nature Park, Papua New Guinea Museum and Port Moresby as well. Everyone was very nice with us and happy to assist although every shop had a lot of security and while having dinner with local sailors in a yacht Club we heard many sketchy stories that it is indeed dangerous. We got visa quickly and we were ready to leave but as soon as we left Royal Papua Yacht Club we’ve got hit by 30+ knots of wind right against us! Our food and water situation isn't good so we head back to the local Guna Village of Nargana to stock up. We hear there is a monkey in town kept as a pet so decided to check it and bring some bananas for it. We also hear that its' living condition are not ideal and that some cruisers are trying to raise funds from other sailors to rescue the poor monkey. It is a cute bundle of all legs and arms and is very affectionate towards me (Plukky). I think it senses that I am not too far evolved from it and therefore good company.
