Cruising the Bahamas Islands, aboard our boat ,for the first time. Come along with us aboard the "Fortunate 2" as we journey from Florida to Bimini, Chub Key, New Providence Island and back again.
Bora Bora in French Polynesia was a whirlwind of fun times for the Nikau crew. We swam with masses of sharks, moray eels, reef fish and eagle rays. We checked out the famous Bloody Mary's bar to see what the fuss was all about and we celebrated Jaz's birthday with a riot of lunch, games and swimming with the 5 other kid boats we are traveling with. Bora Bora is one of the best known and most touristy of the Society Islands in French Polynesia but for good reason, its stunning volcano towers over the tiny island that is surround by endless blue water and sparkling white sand not to mention endless resorts! But despite it's popularity Bora Bora retains a laid back charm and surprisingly vibrant and plentiful marine life, we loved it and we hope you enjoy sharing it with us! We are the Robbins family sailing on our boat named Nikau. We are a family of 5. Our 3 kids are doing NZ correspondence school on board. They are growing to love it! What's not to love about 3 hours of school a day and then a different playground for the afternoon every day! We've traveled from New Zealand to Sardinia in Italy to pick up our boat and we plan over a few seasons to sail her back to New Zealand. We hope you enjoy following us on our adventures! We would love to hear from you. Especially if you are interested in doing something crazy like we are! Maybe we can help answer some questions you have? Thanks and enjoy.
Hey guys! This year we have decided to drive across Europe and visited 3 different countries. We are a family of four and we love camping. This year was the craziest hot burning weather in Europe we experienced the 38c degree it was really hot and I guess it's not normal weather in part of Europe. See you in the next adventure! Learn how to pick wild coconuts from trees while standing safely on the ground by using a simple device called THE NUT JIGGLER. You'll also see how we know when a coconut is ripe by it's color and sound, and also how to remove the coconut's tough outer husk. When we first attempted to pick coconuts from trees we used a variety of methods that were embarrassingly ineffective. We threw rocks at them. We swatted at them with an oar. We tried climbing the trees. All of these attempts yielded poor results and were even quite dangerous. Therefore, it became necessary to invent a better way... and it was from that necessity that THE NUT JIGGLER was born!!!!!!!! THE NUT JIGGLER is a simple device consisting of nothing more than a telescoping whisker pole and a telescoping boat hook - both of which are lashed together using a couple velcro straps. When assembled, these lightweight and easy-to-store components combine to give the user the reach and "hooking ability" needed to pick recalcitrant nuts from the tree. It's also helpful to know the various stages that a ripe coconut goes through as they mature on the tree. Each stage is conveniently communicate to the savvy coconut picker though a series of color changes that the coconut husk goes through. We'll show you what to expect inside of the coconut during each of these stages of maturity and color. Finally, I'll share with you some of the techniques I use to remove the coconut from it's husk with the help of a small machete. There's a bit more to it than just hacking away at it, and doing it right can help insure that you don't inadvertently chop off a finger. Harvesting wild coconuts is one of our favorite things to do in the Bahamas. We enjoy the challenge, and there's nothing like taking a pile freshly foraged Bahamian coconuts back to the boat at the end of the day. One thing is for sure though... we wouldn't be nearly as successful at picking coconuts if it wasn't for our fantastic NUT JIGGLER. Enjoy! We are back! It’s been a few months but we have finally gotten back to scrubbing through footage and hope to be posting a lot more in he near future. This episode shows some of our passage from Marina Papagayo in norther Costa Rica to Acapulco Mexico. This was our second longest passage on the trip from Florida to Mexico at a little over 900 nautical miles. Nels (who helped bring the boat to Panama from Florida) returned to crew with his girlfriend Patty. We didn’t experience any of the notorious sustained offshore winds across the Gulf of Tehuantepec, but we did get hit by some squalls with gusts over 30 knots an at one point our mainsail ripped at a seam near the top and we had to pull the sail down for the duration of the passage. We didn’t get any footage of the actual event because we were too busy dealing with dousing the sail in pouring rain and high winds. We crossed through some really productive fishing grounds and caught Dorado and a big Sailfish (which we will show in another episode) In Acapulco, we managed to find someone to repair the sail and had an interesting experience taking on fuel. ______________________________________________________________________________________ This Video Is Made Possible By Our Amazing Fans! Leaking Lead acid batteries on our sailboat caused a LOT of corrosion and rot ...after being healed over in rough seas. So we either had to upgrade and do a battery box rebuild in fiberglass, upgrade to LiFePO4 lithium batteries, or do both so we have the options for what battery chemistry to use when these Trojan T-105s wear out. Battery acid can corrode, melt, and dissolve a battery box on a cruising sailboat. Patrick Childress explains what he does to replace/repair/rebuild the wood and fiberglass battery box compartment to repair the damage done by leaking/gassing lead acid batteries. He step by step rebuilds a custom acid-proof battery box/compartment. Much of the wood was destroyed by the acid from our 6v golf cart Trojan T-105 lead acid batteries, during bad weather, or overfilling of the water, or was it the gasses emitted during equalization of batteries? Was it spilling of electrolytes after overfilling the battery with battery water, or did battery acid spill out during rough weather/ rough seas? This was also explained in the video before this one: https://youtu.be/WYlhinRAM0I Although we currently have Trojan T-105 lead acid batteries (FLA), we are researching replacing them next time with lithium iron phosphate batteries (12V LiFePO4 battery bank instead of Trojan golf cart batteries) The prices have come down since we started looking at them a few years ago, and they are said to be extremely safe now. We will not have to make too many changes to our charging units because we have been slowly upgrading those over time anyway. But thr price upfront is gigantic for these batteries. Over the long haul though, it catches up and moves ahead considering the number of cycles compared to lead acid and other factors. Since we are longterm liveaboards with no foreseeable end in sight of this cruising lifestyle, long term value is good! The companies we are considering are: Freedom Won” in South Africa, who produces a new kind of marine lithium battery set up (http://www.FreedomWon.co.za) -an excellent product which will revolutionize marine lithium iron phosphate batteries on boats! As per our usual habit, we are also strongly considering importing American made quality lithium batteries, The batteries, and accompanying components that we are most impressed with, as well as the level of support, is ElectroMaax. (http://www.Electromaax.com) Rebecca WILL find the best drop-in Lithium batteries to replace our Trojan T-105 lead acid batteries, or may conclude it’s best to stick with the leaking lead acid batteries for now. Eventually, we will have to replace our lead acid batteries and LifePO4 batteries may be our goal. There is a LOT to consider when replacing lead acid batteries with LifePO4 batteries, so we will spend the next 6 months researching and learning in preparation for replacing our marine batteries with the best marine battery we can find! Be sure to subscribe to find out what we do! This video, is the rebuild of the battery box using a cored structural panel made here by “Fleet Management” in Zululand Yacht Club Boat Yard. It is much like “Coosa board” in the USA, as well as marine plywood, coating everything with fiberglass resin for protection from acid. In this episode, we run into a nagging compass issue that forces Erik into some creative thinking to solve the problem. And we prepare the boat for Hurricane Florence! By early September 2018, we continued to find pesky problems with the Lagoon 440 that would have to be fixed in order for us to sail to the Bahamas in November, but when weather hands you a hurricane warning, and your state declares a mandatory evacuation for your area, you shift gears and move everything inside, and batten down those hatches. Spoiler alert: while the spaghetti models initially agreed that Hampton Roads, Virginia would be in the direct path, 24 hours prior to landfall, it shifted to the south, landing just south of Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina as a Cat 1 storm. The wreck of "Le Humboldt" was eventually scuttled in 23 metres inside Dumbea Reef 9 September 1993 after much effort and problems. It was towed out 2 days previously but they made a mess of the scuttling with the stern lying on the seabed and the bow pointing up skywards. It took another 60kg of dynamite to finally send it to the bottom, and it now lies on its starboard side. The boat, a Japanese Tuna boat was originally called "Fukumaru" meaning good luck. It was then brought to New Caledonia and renamed "Humboldt" by the Socalpi company. It was decided to sink it as a wreck for divers when the company went out of business.

So we moved aboard our sailboat Ran, a custom built Beason 40 in aluminium and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter in January 2016. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds take us. Get Surfshark VPN at https://surfshark.deals/sailingnandji, Enter promo code SAILINGNANDJI for 83% off and one extra month for free! In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we spend the last few days with our friends from home onboard. Whilst the lads are out surfing, the girls are tired of standing behind the cameras and make their own fun, living the hammock life! Bonita and Tash are taken to the playful wave of Bengs Bengs to try and get a few amongst the masses. We then have a minor problem where the captain did not prepare the boat properly before leaving... What a good excuse to have a beach bomb fire and cook in the coals with our last night with friends on board before over night sail back to Padang to drop Tash and Teebs off to the airport. With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and then onto the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the years to come. With a new engine, we continued onto Thailand, then into Indonesia and specifically West Sumatra where we are living the island life and chasing the surf before our big crossing! We departed Australia in July 2017 and have since explored some amazing countries, met some beautiful people and experienced so many different and diverse cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! The adventure is just beginning as we sail West with the trades AROUND THE WORLD! We call out the Australian Coast Guard for the first time and get lifted out of the water to check Florence's bottom ready for sailing to Indonesia. The clock ticks away as we try to get all of our work done on Florence in under 72 hours to save an extra day on the hard. Sailing to a country with limited facilities to maintain and repair a yacht requires some careful planning and hard graft. After all the hard work we then decide to chill out with the koalas, manta rays and a couple of salt water crocodiles... There are few vintage yachts that truly offer the kind of luxury that DEVA can provide. In her current ownership great care has been taken to ensure she remains an intimate family yacht yet her dimensions allow for everything offered by modern super yachts albeit they could never match her charm or 1930s glamour. Full specs and story at the link: http://www.sandemanyachtcompany.co.uk/yacht/410/cox-and-stevens-135-ft-gaff-schooner-1930 To read about DEVA’s history hints at the capability of this yacht, totally at home crossing oceans and probably perfect for a circumnavigation. In recent years DEVA has benefited from a devoted crew and owner and she has very few comparisons. Sometimes owners want to move on and having made this decision they will now consider all realistic offers.

In this episode we explore the islands of Roatan and Utila, which are 2 out of 3 of the islands which make up the Bay Islands. We pick up my friend, and investor Ben, the Navy SEAL, who takes Shara for a dive in the beautiful clear waters or West end, Roatan. We then have to sail our last and final leg to Livingston, Guatemala, where we can clear in and make our way up the incredible Rio Dulce. SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged 2012 Lagoon 450 Catamaran bought in Tortola, BVI at the beginning of 2018. Colin and his friend spent 4 months getting her seaworthy, before setting sail across the Caribbean. Follow our journey as we continue to fix her and eventually circumnavigate the globe! Margarida shows us she is the champ at catching crabs. I come second. Hey I don't care, I get to eat a log of crabs. The next day I am up early for a long ride out to some reefs that are a long way away. It doesn't all go to plan when the dinghy blows 1 seam and then another and then my pump breaks. Ah its all good....well, no it isn't. The dinghy is dead. Now without a dinghy we have to head back to civilisation where we have a surprise waiting for us. Kecinan Beach diving is a shore dive and is a peaceful bay located next to a local village away from the hustle and bustle of Sengiggi. Welcome to our Blown Away channel! PLEASE SUBSCRIBE if you like what you see and we will notify you at least once a week of our new travel and adventure videos. Today's video features Kecinan Beach, also known as Seahorse Beach in Lombok, Indonesia which is only a two and a half-hour ferry ride or half-hour plane ride from the Depensar / Bali airport and is well worth the trip especially if you like muck diving and unusual underwater critters. We dove with Lombok dive which is a local organization and our divemaster was Herman who was excellent as well as a fine young man. #muckdiving #scubadiving #scuba #scubalife #KECINANBEACH #lombok NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Hopefully, you will be as BLOWN AWAY from watching, as we are in experiencing and producing our adventures! HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT US? If you wish to support our video efforts, all we ask is that you SUBSCRIBE, give a THUMBS UP, SHARE our videos with your friends, AND COMMENT! WOULD YOU LIKE TO GET TO KNOW US MORE DEEPLY?
