Voici la première portion d'une modeste présentation de nos 50 jours consécutifs passés à naviguer sur le Lac Champlain en 2019. Nous répétons le même scénario depuis plusieurs années, mais nous n'avions jamais pris le temps de documenter et surtout, de présenter nos expériences. Nous naviguons à 4 (2 adultes, 2 enfants en bas âge) sur un Hunter 30 Cherubini 1980 que nous avons remis à notre goût et à notre main ces dernières années. Nous tenons habituellement de 8 à 9 jours avec notre réservoir d'eau potable et le réservoir d'eaux noires. Cette année, nous avons fait de la voile chaque jour pour lesquels nous avons navigué. Nous avons parcouru une distance totale de 610 miles nautiques sur le fond et consommé 32 litres de diesel en 7 semaines. la plus grande distance parcourue sur le fond fut de 35,2 miles nautiques en près de 7 hrs 30. Il n'y a eu qu'une seule journée complète de pluie... et 5 jours de canicule. Notre vitesse de croisière se situe aux alentours de 5 noeuds. Telles ont été les conditions de notre séjour sur le lac en juillet et août 2019. Nous espérons inspirer ceux qui doutent du plaisir que l'on peut avoir à naviguer sur le Lac Champlain avec une jeune famille et partager quelques'uns de nos mouillages et des quelques moments de bonheurs passés sur l'eau. Soyez indulgents avec la qualité du montage, nous sommes plus que néophytes dans ce domaine. N'hésitez pas à poser des questions ou laisser un petit commentaire! With a father who went to 5 olympics as Flying Dutchman competitor initially and then as coach, Jon Bilger spent his early years around sailing. He bought is first boat after saving $250 and asking his dad to build him an optimist. In a P Class he then won New Zealand’s Tauranga Cup twice amongst a fleet of 120 dinghies that included young sailors such as Craig Monk. Then the move to the 470 and the Olympics followed along with competing in various European sailing regattas before the days of professional coaches. Jon was thrust into the Tag Heuer 1995 Americas Cup Team as navigator and it opened the door to his newly found passion for weather analysis. From there a decade with the Swiss based, Russell Coutts led, Alinghi Americas Cup syndicate, Jon was responsible for weather modelling for the 2003 and 2007 winning Americas Cup team before the loss in 2010 to Oracle. The weather technology developed for this team led to the model that Predict Wind is based upon today and is now used all over the world by everyday sailors. We start the episode one day into crossing the Atlantic Ocean to Bermuda which turned out to be a great day of sailing! A couple of days later and the weather takes a turn for the worst as we experience sailing while being surrounded by lightening and then afterwards, dead calm. Season 4 | Episode 82 | Scuba Diving and Sunsets by Beach Fire. On this episode we finally get to relax and enjoy ourselves at this peaceful anchorage! Taking in some shore time with our dog Mr. Steady; Scuba Diving with schools of fish, sea fans, a sea star and countless rays; and hiking up the valley for firewood. We closed out a perfect day with a fire on the beach in once of the campgrounds fire pits. We really can't wait to come back to this anchorage and bring friends. Hello Friends, I awoke to the heartbreaking news of the tragedy onboard the Dive Boat Conception burning down to its waterline and sinking with over 30 people MISSING still. We dove on this boat in January of 2018 and I shot a bunch of footage but never made an episode of the trip. I have put together what footage I have of the layout of the boat for any friends and family members or anyone really that wants to understand what happened or how this could have happened. The below decks of this boat were packed floor to ceiling with bunks, stacked 3 high. I don't have any footage of the two small stairwells that lead up into the cabin but I remember being shocked that there was no accessible hatch to the deck, that I knew about anyway. I am not putting blame on the dive captain or the company who runs the boat because this boat was highly professional and checked out by the Coast Guard regularly so it was obviously up to code. Disasters just happen sometimes, and there is no bigger disaster on a boat than a fire. My heart goes out to the divers and the friends and families of all that were lost. We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted.
