Merry Christmas guys!!!! This year, there’s nothing more than we could wish for ourselves than being reunited with Polar Seal in time for Christmas. After flying from Spain, isolating ourselves at our friend’s farm in Sweden for two weeks, taking a (negative) covid test 48 hours before flying and a full day in an airplane, we made it back to Curacao and Polar Seal. We spend the holidays isolated on an island where we know nobody, far away from our families and as for many of you, this year didn’t bring the type of Christmas celebration we would normally wish for, but it is the best nonetheless. Given the circumstances, we feel enormously blessed to be where we are, to be healthy, and to celebrate in the comfort of an apartment with AC. This year, it doesn’t get any better than that and we’ll enjoy every second of it :) 2020 has been quite an adventure for us as sailors and Youtube creators, and we are so happy to end it on a happy note! Keep in mind we bought her at auction without ever meeting the owner! The owner was sailing along and ran aground - hard. Hard enough that the keel pivoted and pushed the aft end up into the hull. This force cracked the internal grid in several places and broke a portion of the grid free from hull. At some point an inspection was done, insurance was called and decisions were made. A low-cost tip I learned to protect the fiberglass of your boat by adding an Everlast brand "rubber leg tip" over the support leg of the boarding ladder. It will last longer and protects the boat better than the OEM bumper.

Creating a continuous Dyneema Loop is easier than you think. All you need is your D-Splicer and a pair of scissors, then all that is left to do is watch this video which will help you create one in minutes. A continuous dyneema loop has many uses, from attaching pulleys to fixed points to creating a soft shackle with a metal bar they are a great alternative to traditional metal shackles. Dyneema loops are great if you have issues where traditional shackles my damage the hull or spars if pulleys flap. If you are a sailor and have not started splicing yet we suggest you give it a go, with the evolution and strength of modern rope splicing has many advantages over traditional shackles. Van Rihnu in Estland zeilen we naar de hoofdstad van Letland, Riga. We bezoeken deze fantastische stad en verwonderen ons over de ontberingen die het Letse volk door de geschiedenis hebben doorstaan. De architectuur in de stad is zo geweldig dat wij als leken er zelfs waardering voor kunnen opbrengen. We overleven het feestgedruis dat de haven 's nachts omringt ternauwernood en vluchten na een paar dagen richting de monding van de Westerlijke Dvina. Over een windstille Golf van Riga varen we naar Skulte waar we zien dat de gastenhaven in aanbouw is. Wij zijn Ben en Felia. Jaren hebben wij de droom gehad om samen over de wereld te zeilen. In mei 2020 zijn we aan dit grote avontuur begonnen. In onze Atlantic43, Eva genaamd, gaan wij waar de wind ons brengt. Eva is een aluminium zeiljacht met ophaalbare kiel. In this episode we bring you a little Christmas present; an interview with Neil Payter and a boat tour of his Class40; Cariberia. On 9th May 2021 Neil sets off in the OSTAR (Original Single-Handed Transatlantic Race) – sailing single-handedly 3,000 miles across the North Atlantic to reach Newport, Rhode Island, USA. As you might know, not long ago, we spent a week in a marina in Gosport and Neil Payter was the first person we met. Even before we knew his name we were onboard Cariberia and he was telling us everything about the boat and his participation in the race. We had a great time that week listening to his stories, meeting some of his friends and helping out. Neil is going to spend the winter training and making sure him and the boat are ready for the race. Whilst being there we had the pleasure to meet Alex Laline who will be helping him out with all the preparation. Alex will be participating in the Mini Transat 2021, where he will race accross The Atlantic on a 6.5m boat. Hoje faz 1 ano q vim morar a bordo do Volare. Eu nunca tinha tido experiência nenhuma com barcos. Foi um verdadeiro recomeço, um tiro no escuro, sem saber nada doq poderia vir pela frente! Mas pelo menos até hoje não achei oq me desse medo, a não ser a morte. Não dela exatamente, mas d ela chegar antes q eu possa viver todas as emoções q guardo no coração. Descobri q velejar é como montar a cavalo, coisa q fiz a vida toda. Depois q se sobe a vela o barco acorda e tudo q podemos fazer é tentar administrar o melhor possível a situação, pq o veleiro, assim como o cavalo, tem vida, e é preciso ter sensibilidade, paciência e respeito, se quiser continuar... Tirando as saudades dos amados, eu só tenho tido dias felizes! Foi a melhor decisão da minha vida!
