Last race on the Royal Malta Yacht Club racing calendar for 2020. A challenging race that required true grit and determination from those racing. Strong winds and high swells were the order of the day for the fleet, which saw only four boats finish this gruelling race.

2020 has been one of the toughest years we've ever had to tackle - but amid the challenges there have been some positives. Take a look at some of our highlights.

RYA VHF GMDSS Course. Royal Yachting Association VHF GMDSS Radio Course. We explain the City Sailing RYA VHF GMDSS course in detail explaining the set-up, use and theory for your RYA VHF Radio Course. The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) VHF GMDSS course is designed to teach boaters how to use a VHF radio for safety and communication purposes while out at sea. Here are some of the key things that the course covers: Regulations and procedures: The course covers the relevant regulations and procedures for using a VHF radio, including licensing requirements, call signs, and distress procedures. Radio operation: The course teaches the fundamentals of radio operation, including how to use the different channels, how to make a call, how to respond to a call, and how to use DSC (digital selective calling). Emergency procedures: The course covers the emergency procedures for using a VHF radio, including how to send a distress call, how to use the emergency frequency, and how to respond to a distress call. GMDSS: The course provides an overview of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), including the different types of distress signals, the equipment required on board, and the different levels of GMDSS certification. Practical exercises: The course includes practical exercises to help students gain hands-on experience with using a VHF radio, including making calls, sending distress signals, and responding to calls. The RYA VHF GMDSS course is typically taught over two days and includes both classroom instruction and practical exercises. At the end of the course, students will be able to take a written and practical exam to obtain their VHF radio operator's license. Quando eu consegui sair da cabine que eu estava e vi o meu tripulante totalmente desesperado, fiquei extremamente nervoso e dei um enorme gargalhada. Passamos quase um minuto rindo e depois, saímos para resolver o problema. Foi aí que eu aprendi o que costumo chamar de “liturgia no cargo de liderança”. Neste trecho, do quinto dia, entre a navegada entre Manaus AM. e Santarém PA. De Parintins AM, Juriti e Óbidos PA. Onde encaro a maior tempestade, em duração. Como de costume, ouvi no vhf, chamada geral de um empurrador, de balsa, que navegava com visibilidade restrita, devido a intensa chuva que nos castigava, naquele momento. Eu baixando o Amazonas, sentido contrário, dei o meu compreendido e informe de minha presença no meio do rio, navegando na linha isobatimetrica de 23 m. Chamei tb, pelo VHF, comandante do ferry, São Bartolomeu, que navegava no rumo da balsa, para alerta-lo, já que ele não respondeu a chamada geral. Imagens tremidas, pelo vento forte e chuva, é o que mostro neste episódio. Espero que goste e querendo, deixe seu (like) comentário, critica ou sugestão. Bvs

In this SV Freelance episode Vicki and I spent an early August day with friends at Windigo, Isle Royale National Park, where we saw a truly dazzling sunset; arrived the next day at Grand Marais on the scenic Minnesota North Shore, just ahead of some heavy thunderstorms; and in the morning slipped the mooring lines for a great sail across Lake Superior to the beautiful Julian Bay in the Apostle Islands.

Going to the shops in Sweden, filling upp the fuel tank. Keeping it nice and short because I didn't have that much content :P.

Walk through the winter woods with us at Carleton Place, Ontario, Canada. After a month being on the hard, we went sailing again. First to the Trintelhaven. A special place for us as we had our wedding there in 2009. Some people had a big, loud, late night (illegal?) party/rave. We had some visitors and did a haircut. Afterward we went on a night sail to Kornwerdezand.
