Did we really expect to get through of all of these storms scot free? One afternoon while floating on our mooring ball in St Augustine, a tiny squall rolls in. It doesn’t look that bad, but it proves itself otherwise. A huge crack of lightning seems to hit the water within a couple hundred feet of us. Initially we don’t think anything of it, but then, one by one, we discover a cascade of failures throughout our electrical system. According to the insurance agent that assisted with our claim, 1/3 of all Boat US’s lightning strike claims come from Florida. Hunting for a boatyard to haul out Soulianis had already proven difficult — everywhere seemed to be full. Now we really need a haul out ASAP to inspect our hull and sort out all the damage from our electrifying experience. We've had the pleasure of exploring 6 continents and sailing with almost 60 amazing Delos crew. From party boat to family boat you've stuck with us as we've evolved over the years and it means the world to continue sharing this lifestyle that we love so much! In this episode we sail Delos to Mount Desert Island, Maine and anchor right in the middle of Acadia National Park. Once we figure out how to anchor Maggie with the incredibly high tides we begin exploring by foot and hike the highest trail accessible right next to Delos. Brian decides to tackle some more boat work fixing our washing machine which takes an interesting turn. At the end of the day the washing machine is in pieces, but we now have unlimited hot water from our new heater system so things begin to look up. Keep in mind we bought her at auction without ever meeting the owner! The owner was sailing along and ran aground - hard. Hard enough that the keel pivoted and pushed the aft end up into the hull. This force cracked the internal grid in several places and broke a portion of the grid free from hull. At some point an inspection was done, insurance was called and decisions were made. After fixing our steering we leave our isolated island group for the first time since lockdown started only to encounter 35 knot winds on our offshore passage to the Island of Nias off the west coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. Even though we were pounding upwind in 35 knots of wind and horizontal rain, it was still exhilarating to be out sailing offshore on the Indian Ocean once more. Boat life is always full of surprises. We are a British couple who set off from England in 2016 to fulfill our dream of sailing around the world on our 37ft sail boat, Florence. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V770 with a Rode External mic. My old camera is now my number 2 is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. Vendée Globe - Jeudi 31 décembre 2020 Opération délicate sur Groupe Sétin. Manuel Cousin doit retravailler sur son safran bâbord qu'il avait réparé le 10 décembre dernier. Il profite d'une accalmie car d'autres fissures sont réapparues. L'autre sofran commence également à se fissurer. We take 3 days to cross to the Exumas. The first day starts off OK but gets really rough as the day goes on. Logan climbs the mast to fix our jib and after some playing we get stuck on the boat for 3 days due to rough seas. Can't take the dingy out, can't snorkel can't leave the boat. We decide to take a break and go into Highborns Cay Marina. It was a rough sail with pretty confused high seas, but it was only a 45 minute run. We really hope you enjoy! Van Skulte in Letland zeilen we naar Kihnu, een eiland dat bij Estland hoort en in de Golf van Riga ligt. Het eiland wordt volledig gerund door vrouwen. Al eeuwenlang zijn de mannen een groot deel van het jaar op zee om te vissen. Nu de zee bijna leeggevist is vinden ze werk in de landbouw en toerisme. We huren fietsen en rijden het eiland in een paar uurtjes rond. Dan is het weer tijd om door te varen richting Tallinn, de hoofdstad van Estland. Onderweg proberen we de elektronische kompas te kalibreren, omdat er een grote afwijking is tussen de koers over de grond -die de GPS berekent- en de magnetische koers van het kompas. Het helpt allemaal niks. Wij zijn Ben en Felia. Jaren hebben wij de droom gehad om samen over de wereld te zeilen. In mei 2020 zijn we aan dit grote avontuur begonnen. In onze Atlantic43, Eva genaamd, gaan wij waar de wind ons brengt. Eva is een aluminium zeiljacht met ophaalbare kiel. Op onze website kun je hierover meer informatie vinden. This was quite an emotional chapter for us. Not only because we are missing Caladh terribly (and wonder if she misses us too!), but also because in this episode we ended up making one of the most difficult decisions of our adventure so far... to leave the boat somewhere safe and travel back to Manchester. Family illness and the escalating pandemic were the main reasons for this mid-season finale, which we chat a bit more about in this episode. Despite this, we still manage to clock up over 2,000 nautical miles and explore the deep Mani in the Southern Peloponnesus. This lighthouse, built in 1868, was the first to be built by the Queensland Government. It was built by Hennet & Spink in Bridgwater, UK, and the cast iron sections were shipped here and reassembled. We were able to view its light from at least 20NM out at sea when sailing in from the Capricornia Island Group. The lighthouse keeper Stuart Buchanan is rightly passionate about this beautiful structure and has dedicated substantial portions of his life to its upkeep and improvements. Thank you Stuart for humoring a fellow yachty and allowing us to capture this footage.

In this video we take our Trailer Sailer on another long weekend adventure to such places as Winda Woppa, Jimmys Beach and the Yacaaba Headland. PS.
