To change the scenery we move towards the other pass of Rangiroa. Mario tries to find a mechanic ashore before he starts his MacGyver modus to find a solution for our burned diode and I have to repair my not working toilet. We have luck that we can manage to swim for a moment with dolphins in the pass and enjoy some more underwater time. If you like this video, please give us a thumb up and leave a comment. What can INEOS Team UK do to improve ? One of the answers may lie in the rig, the powerplant of an AC75. The double skinned ‘soft’ sails that are used on these boats may look like a compromise between traditional sails and the solid wings of the previous three America’s Cups, but they are proving to be far more potent. Capable of creating asymmetric sections shapes that are believed in some cases to change gear automatically with varying boats speeds, double America’s Cup helmsman and North Sails president Ken Read explains why they are much faster upwind than the wings of the previous Cup boats. In a one to one chat with PlanetSail’s Matt Sheahan he outlines why these sails work and how they might affect the rest of us in the future, plus he sets out the options that may be open to the British in their quest to achieve more speed in time for the Challengers’ Series, the Prada Cup.
This week we explore Klein (little) Curacao, and what a gem we have rocked up to, a flat island with turquoise blue water, white sandy beaches with an old pink lighthouse in the middle. Kieran gets some amazing drone footage of the island (mind blown), and we give you a little history lesson on the place. I am loving the pink lighthouse, and decide we need a better look; we're going to walk up it, not totally legal... Kieran gets very anxious at the sight of a few ships stranded onshore, rethinking he's career choice a little. We go snorkelling off the side of our boat and I take our tender Ralph on a spin in the blue waters. To end this beautiful day we have a cruise sun set sail back to the mainland. Oh what a day! We make our final push sailing into St. Thomas US Virgin Islands during a squally night. We have some special visitors, but first, we catch up on some boat work, fixing some not so fun problems. We visit St. John USVI for some fun with friends and do some swimming and snorkeling. Two sailboats on the water make a race (we were racing at least)! We are challenged by an Outremer Catamaran! We celebrate our win in this video with some boat pizza! #sailing #sailinglife #spinnaker #travelvlog In this episode, we finally make it to St. Thomas after a 700 mile offshore ocean passage from the Bahamas. We are glad to see land but after so much time in the deserted islands of the Bahamas, we are smacked in the face with the full force of big brand marketing in the USVI. We have lots to do while we are here, especially some much-needed plumbing work. Don't ask, just watch and you will see. We also need to make some repairs after the hard sailing passage. We still make time for fun though. Kate's mom joins us for a few days, and our friends from Jamestown Boatyard in Rhode Island, Dave and Denise, make an appearance for some spirited sailing and fun in St. John. About Us: So who are we? We are Kate and Curtis, a YouTube sailing couple and travel vloggers, with our sailing rescue dog Roxy, aboard SV Sweet Ruca, a J-Boats J/46 monohull. We used to be sailboat racers on the great lakes (we still are...kind of). We bought a sailboat, re-fit it, with a goal to sail around the world, doublehanded, via the capes (Cape Horn and the Cape of Good Hope). Some say this is the wrong way or the hard way. To us, the challenge is part of the journey. We will see if this will happen or not, as the "new normal" has put quite a damper on our travels. For now, we are holed up in the Windward Islands of the Caribbean making videos and scuba diving. We are not Sailing La Vagabonde, Expedition Evans, Sailing Doodles, Sailing Uma, Project Atticus, MJ Sailing, Gone With the Wynns, or SV Delos. We aren't Vendee Globe Race or Volvo Ocean Race sailors, although sometimes Curtis wishes he was one. We don't have a fancy catamaran, but we do have a pretty and fast monohull sailboat. Cruising catamarans like the Fountaine Pajot's, Leopards, and Lagoons can't keep up, but we still like them and even sometimes with we had one ;-) We hope you enjoy our videos and vlogs and join us on our journey via our YouTube Channel. 'Till Next Time :-)
This episode was supposed to be a nice and easy holiday construction project. However, in true Millennial Falcon fashion it did not go to plan. In addition to finding a LOT more rotted wood than we had hoped, the weather over the Christmas holidays turned pretty nasty which meant that working on the boat during the day was pretty much impossible. So, as a small consolation prize we sat down to do a little Christmas unboxing. Thank you so much for watching and for your support. In this episode, I'm opening season 3 The weather predictions and navigation warnings were promising high seas and strong winds. I wanted to go sailing to test my boat and gear as I love sailing in strong wind. Such a long time since I had really good sailing because normally the wind is not that great in the Caribbean. The last time something similar to the conditions back home or in Europe was when beating my way from Panama to Martinique. Living in Grenada has been such a blessing not only because it's the friendliest people in the whole Caribbean, but also a covid free bubble for a long time. Did lots of sailing on different yachts, explored the island, and made tons of new friends. But now it's time to start sailing! Everything I do and has done last months is more or less preparing for my Pacific crossing. Season 7 : Episode #170 : Dinghy Recon and Moving On Hello Friends, This episode was shot the day after our brush with death. We search for our lost dinghy and sole ride to shore. I was convinced I saw it onshore... but it turns out seals are the same shape and color as our dinghy when they lay in pairs..... After searching for several miles we decided to make way for Santa Rosa Island to anchor at Beechers Bay but after feeling the winds increasing and checking the weather we pointed out bow for Prisoners Harbor on Santa Cruz Island. We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it. Much love Carla and Simon
When Brandon realized there was some #mountainbiking in Central Florida...we "magically" ended up making a couple day pitstop there. We stayed at Santos Trailhead and Campground just outside of Ocala, Florida which is pretty much the epicenter for Florida mountain biking. What a rad place! Brandon hadn't felt these kinds of mountain biking vibes since we left Arizona! Of course, a video just HAD to be made. For a boy from Idaho, riding in Florida is like riding in the jungle. That said, perhaps they should call it "hill" biking in these parts. The Santos Trailhead takes you to the Vortex trail system which is where all the freeride stuff is found including the Indigo Flow Trail shown in the video. We finally start our voyage south! We were exhausted and exhilarated at the same time when October 1st came around and Bagheera was loaded onto a truck towards Plattsburgh. We forgot to explain this in the video, but in case you’re wondering why every member of our little crew took a different route into the US from Canada, it’s because the border was still closed due to COVID travel restrictions. This made it impossible for us to sail Bagheera into the US, even with Amandine being a US citizen. However, it did mean she was able to take the land border with Bonbon and most of our belongings. Tom took a flight as that was still a possible way for a non US citizen to cross the border. And Bagheera crossed the border “commercially” with a shipping company! Phew! We know... very complicated... Once the crew was reunited, it was a bit of a race down Lake Champlain and through the 12 locks of the Champlain Canal to the Hudson River. This is only the start of quite the adventure... Thanks for watching!! ~October 1st to October 15th ~

It's a big day...after nearly a month of being without a mast it is being re-stepped! We took it down for inspection after the rig failed off Cape Hatteras and while it was down we added an exit point for a second spinnaker halyard and replaced/upgraded our roller furler to a beefier ocean-grade model. In this episode we try to give you an idea of what our lives are like when not actively traveling. We get a lot of questions about what occupies our time when not sailing and why we are so busy. We take you behind the scenes during the days of preparation that lead up to the fun of cruising. After our experience in the Ragged's during a pandemic, Grace will never let a food storage space go unused 🙃. It takes quite the effort to get a month's worth of provisions stored away on a thirty six foot boat. Annapolis was super fun, super hard, and super busy. But when you're preparing for the next adventure, you're in the 'dreaming phase' and sometimes that's half the fun of cruising! 0:00 Intro 0:58 Recap 1:16 Rig work; adding a spare spinnaker halyard 2:25 Moving back on Calico Skies! 5:20 Putting our boat back together 11:02 Swapping our chain 11:13 Restepping the mast ~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Thanks to our Patrons! War-braid! Well that's my way of making plaiting your wife's hair seem more manly. Anyway I gave Mari one of those in this episode and just as well because she helmed the boat like a crusty old sea dog through some rough seas.... We also followed whispers, rumors, and tales of yee old to find the mythical Blue Cave of Vanuatu. A deep breath, an underwater swim, and Mari and I had our very own underground amphitheater.... a special day. We hope you enjoy!
We left poor Unleaded in Michigan's winter and boarded Freedom, a 50' Ferretti for a wonderful trip to the Dry Tortugas. Here's a short video of some of the sights you can see while there! We started our trip at Fort Myers Beach and headed to Key West for a couple days before making the trip to the Dry Tortugas. Fort Jefferson was magnificent! You can make your own walking tour with all the informational placards and walk the beautiful beaches and moat. We did end up snorkeling (although our winter jackets show the contrary). Some windy days stirred up the sand so it was slightly murky but fun to see the coral and fish surrounding Fort Jefferson.
