After spending a month completing projects in the boat yard, we launch One Life and get back on the water! We restock the boat with food before taking our Grenada friends sailing. We have the best day with them and even caught a couple fish! We decide to sail to nearby Ronde Island to do some diving and have a little peace and quiet. On our way we stop at Grenada's underwater sculpture park, to take a quick peek. After a week at Ronde Island, we head to Carriacou. We visit Anse La Roche and Petite Martinique where we hike our way up to the most stunning 360 degree views. Join us next time as we say goodbye to Grenada and sail to a new country! Cheers! xo, B&G Want to help support our video productions? Slightly different style of video this week –– I wanted to make something about this past year and some of the things I've realized along the way. I think one of the biggest things I realized was how important it is to continually build a vision of the future. I've always been motivated by books and films to go out and live a life of adventure, but when Aladino and I started living our own life of adventure, I largely stopped reading those books and building on that dream. I didn't think this was a problem at all –– I was living life rather than dreaming about it. But after a while, I started feeling a bit directionless, not really knowing what was next or where I was headed. It's important to enjoy the moment, but it's also important to look forward. When lockdown hit, I had so much time to sit, think, and read. I found myself setting goals and envisioning the future in a more potent way than had happened in a while. That's what ultimately led to us setting things in motion for the next chapter of our sailing adventures: a chapter filled with far away places, unknown adventures, and more refined filmmaking. This film is a bit of a tribute to the power of dreams, books, and envisioning what you want your future to actually look like. These videos are made possible by you. Fiberglassing once again! We beef up the area directly around the keel and specifically the keel bolt area. The keel bolts pass through the hull and through the new glass which is bonded to the original grid structure. It is already as thick as factory in this area, but for good measure we just about double the thickness where the bolts go through. We have the glass, time and means, so better to overbuild than underbuild! Thanks for watching- With love The Evans' **************************************** *Our Boat* 2008 Beneteau 49 3 cabin 2 head 4JH4-TE Westerbeke generator Mast, sails and rig are in excellent condition and in storage Here's what we *think* we know about her past. Keep in mind we bought her at auction without ever meeting the owner! The owner was sailing along and ran aground - hard. Hard enough that the keel pivoted and pushed the aft end up into the hull. This force cracked the internal grid in several places and broke a portion of the grid free from hull. At some point an inspection was done, insurance was called and decisions were made. See https://youtu.be/JJ3MruoO2q4 for how we came to own her! **************************************** *Our Gear* Main Camera: https://amzn.to/3h9CiOg Main Lens: https://amzn.to/2Q3hYC7 Microphone: https://amzn.to/3iSDGoV Action Camera: https://amzn.to/4ibLwJV Drone: https://amzn.to/2Yf3X8S Laptop: https://amzn.to/3h9ydcL *Find Us Elsewhere* Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ExpeditionEvans J Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/Jadexploring/ B Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/_BrettEvans_ EE Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ExpeditionEvans *Website/blog* https://www.expeditionevans.com *Want to support us?" https://www.patreon.com/expeditionevans #sailboat #sailboatrestoration #sailboatrefit #sailing #beneteauamerica

#welovethewind #windlovers We fitted a Rutland 1200 Wind Generator to our Lagoon 400. The installation was simple enough given the instructions. We had a pole made as I did not want to get one shipped half way around the world. However, given the choice I would use the pole supplied by Rutland as an option. The only problem we have had was with the remote display which froze. Rutland were happy to replace it free of charge. We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it. Much love

How to Choose a Sailing Catamaran PLUS A Bit About Us | Harbors Unknown Ep. 13 Lots of people have asked about our boat selection process; why we chose the Seawind 1600 and what our sailing background is. Since we’re back at the dock in Ft. Lauderdale we thought it would be a great time to share those stories. So grab a drink and settle in. There are some hilarious bloopers at the end. Don’t forget to subscribe, share and like this video. Fabio was born in Piombino, Italy a small town on the coast of Tuscany and always had a love for sailing. Windsurfing and hobie cat sailing was very popular and he enjoyed both. After a research residency in WI he moved to RI. Fabio met the Marrocco brothers and opened a restaurant with them. Soon after he met Kristin there who was a bartender. RI is a great place for sailing and we sailed with a friend who had a Pearson 35. It was the first sailing Kristin had done & she loved it. Naturally this led Fabio to want to buy a sailboat. Kristin grew up on the water. Her dad is a commercial diver and on the days he wasn’t working he’d often go quahogging. Kristin acted as the tender just in case anything went wrong and helped sort the quahogs. So even though she didn’t have a sailing background she loved being on the ocean. Needless to say Kristin thought Fabio’s idea to buy a sailboat was fabulous! We bought a Beneteau 473 & kept it on a mooring in Narragansett Bay at Conanicut Marina in Jamestown just across from Newport. We could hoist the sails on the mooring and head right out into the bay. It was a great place to sail! We took the boat to Block Island, Martha’s Vineyard + Nantucket as well as down the east coast to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida where Fabio’s brother lived. We decided to move to Ft. Lauderdale in 2004 and because of the active hurricane season, hired a captain to take the boat down the intercoastal once the season ended. The Beneteau turned out to be the wrong boat for South Florida with it’s slowish speed and deep draft. We sold the Beneateau & a few years later bought a Dragonfly 35 trimaran. That boat was fast! We got her up to 18 knots. It was a lot of fun but once we started toying with the idea of living aboard a boat we started looking for something larger. We sold the trimaran and Fabio’s search became intense. How do you choose a catamaran with so many choices? First, decide if you want a production cat with a lot of living space & don’t mind sailing with the tradewinds or motor sailing OR if you want something that goes a bit faster, sails in light winds, points into the wind almost like a monohull and are willing to sacrifice space. We had three main criteria; daggerboards, covered helms & the ability to see out to the ocean from the cockpit. Given our budget this limited our selection to four boats, the Outremer 45, Catana 53, Balance 526 and the Seawind 1600. The Outremer living space was smaller than we expected & Fabio even had to turn on a diagonal to walk in the hull corridor. The helm stations on the Catana are too exposed. The Balance is really more than we wanted to pay, plus it has only one helm station. That left us with the Seawind 1600! We’re happy with our decision. She’s a GREAT sailing vessel. As hull number 4 there are a few kinks to be worked out in the systems for liveaboards and we’re working with Seawind to iron out the details. Thanks for watching! Highlights of what happened globally in the sport of Sailing in the last 7 days. If you like it Share, Subscribe and hit bell for upload updates. We've all thought about doing it but few do it. No, not buying Crypto currency but starting on Port tack in a 30 boat fleet which 29 boats have right of way. In the Couta Boat Nationals, Race 3 Max Chester in Zephyr did just that. We have his onboard video. Boris Hermann has fixed the Sea Explorer's Mainsail tear, rounded Cape Horn and is currently heading North towards home. He is East of the Falkland Islands. The will to win the America's Cup. Lots of people have it but few the opportunity. The NYYC has an empty table lit up for the cup's return. Good luck to them. In Italy we show the 2020 north Lake Garda season wrap. Looks fabulous. Waiting for a suitable weather window after the last few fizzled out (as seen in the Vendee Globe) the Gitana Team with Franck Cammas and Charles Caudrelier in charge are on stand by on their big tri Edmund De Rothschild. All the best for "Take 2" of the Julues Verne Trophy. INEOS team UK show us how they treat their boat. Not with care as we look at their structural testing. We've seen lightly built AC boats in the past seft destruct, even sink. Thomas Colville is skipper of the maxi tri SODEBO which pilled out of it's Jules Verne Trophy attempt recently after foil breaking. The crew pay tribute to his skills. Enjoy.

You might know Karen Batson as one of Melbourne's most respected chefs. She is also a budding silversmith. But did you also know she is a classic yacht custodian and regular competitor with the Classic Fleet on Port Phillip? In this interview Sal Balharrie talks with her about all of the above.
