The Windward Mark Rounding is another manouvre that involves co-ordination of the 3 controls: the body, the mainsheet and the rudder. Normally when sailing the optimist course, we don't bear away and sail straight downwind, instead we reach to the Wing Mark. In this video, I show you how to bear away downwind sailing around the top mark in most typically a Windward/Leeward course, I hope this video helps you gain a few inches when rounding. Suggestions? Here we tackle 1400 miles in 3 days as we head south to Yuma Arizona for the longest leg of our road trip yet!! We will be heading south again in the spring, but good luck doing 1400 miles in 3 days with the boat!!

The Viška regatta is one of the most popular and most massive regattas in Croatia. Each year program is to Sail from Split to Vis, then a technical regatta is being sailed in the Port of Vis and the last day is being sailed from Vis to Split. This year, due to the Corona virus, the sailing route was changed, so program was: sailing from Split to Starigrad on Hvar island and back. It was very interesting as every year to sail in One Design class More 55 because it is a real sailing. So we had Match race all the time. But there are few stranger tales than the story of how a tiny New Zealand boating club with a car for a clubhouse got its name on the world’s oldest international sporting trophy. Matt Sheahan heads to the site of the story to see for himself and to recount this extraordinary America’s Cup victory. He also considers how far things have come with the AC75s since designers ditched 20 tonnes of lead and allowed their boats to fly. And while the boat speeds between the current boats and NZL60, the Cup winning yacht of 2000 are worlds apart, the physical concepts are closer than you might think. We decided it was time to head South so after a night sail from Mallorca to Ibiza Island in the Balearics, we began to lose track of where we were. When we finally worked it out, we were happy to explore the North east corner of Ibiza and found another great walk to do with the kids . Unfortunately we also found an underwater cable which we picked up with our anchor and had a lot of trouble trying to detach it! Measuring the boat for a new mainsail was a pretty daunting prospect for me as a first timer. A lot could go wrong, like an expensive new sail turning up in Indonesia and not fitting at all with no way of changing it. The say is, "measure twice, cut once" and we took that a bit further but measuring everything a 4-5 times each. Fingers crossed we did it right. Desert Point is one of the best left hand barreling surf waves on the planet and it just happened to be located just round the corner for where we had been anchored. With a big swell said to be approaching we woke up early and went down for a look. A long day in the sun but pretty facisnating to watch the mix of surfers from round the world have their go at taming the beast. Since we arrived we have been volunteering at the local dog rescue shelter here and helping other local street dogs nearby. We have been feeding local street dogs also and came across some newborn puppies with their mum. We had been monitoring them this last month but the mum kept moving and hiding them from us. Eventually after the big storm last week we went trekking trying to find them, unfortunately when we did, 2 had passed away so we decided to take the remaining puppies back to the boat with us.
