We have been waiting for this day for what seems like forever (since July), I got a call today saying Aurora was being moved into the Plastskador workshop. My plan was to take some good shots of her going in but I couldn't make it to the yard. The repair will be extensive and will take around 5-6 weeks where she will be gutted, ground down on the inside and made strong again. We can't wait to share how the professionals will take care of this in a mini series.

We sailed 79 miles to Brampton Island from Middle Percy Island to shelter from a strong blow coming from the South East. After sitting out days of wind and rain secure in the anchorage, we were rewarded with some perfect days to enjoy this tropical oasis. They were the sort of days that remind us why we live on a yacht as we explored the macabre abandoned resort, stretched our legs with a climb through island’s stunning vegetation to take in the breath-taking views from Brampton Peak and had beautiful golden sand beaches all to ourselves to enjoy warm, crystal clear waters. When we arrived in Grenada we had to go on a full-blown lockdown while we waited for a travel incubation period, then a pcr test, and finally when the results came in we were free to roam around and go see the boat we've put under contract. Yes, we did go a little stir crazy...but a lot of good came from that time!! As luck would have it (and it was indeed very lucky because Lauren had a mere 24 hours to research and choose a government-approved facility to quarantine at) we loved the Secret Harbour Hotel & Marina we quarantined at so much and we met so many nice people from afar from our little balcony, that we decided if the boat sale went through, we would bring our catamaran there to stay for a bit. If you can get ahold of Ponche Kuba, we highly recommend it. We know it is Manufactured in Barbados :) Lauren totally failed on the history lesson in the video 🤣, but if you have a chance, look it up, it's a pretty neat story about a guy who loved the Caribbean and wanted to capture all the flavors of all the islands he visited. The recipe we concocted is equal parts Kuba and whiskey and a hefty amount of juice (this can be to taste) the drink is pretty strong but also delicious- so be wary. We made this for some friends on their boat the other night and whew- it was a lot. As always, we'd love to know what you think! Cheers everyone..and try to enjoy every moment. :)

If lightning hits your boat, hope Zeus taps it lightly, like he did Soulianis. After a thunderstorm rolled through St Augustine, Florida, we weren’t even sure if we’d been hit. But the over the next couple of days, we discovered more and more electronics no longer working, and our VHF antenna had been vaporized from the top of our mast. We start an insurance claim, and begin the business of getting to the bottom of our lightning mishap. The boat is hauled out for a survey and electrical inspection. Ultimately the damage found is minimal, and we decide to tackle the broken electronics and mast rewiring after our seasonal migration north to see family and friends. Hope you enjoy! With our navigation pad on the fritz, a fussy teething baby, and a busted toilet we decide to make a move further North. We heard rumors of a long, white sand beach reported to be a slice of the Caribbean in Maine, just a few miles south of the Canadian boarder. So we set sail in search of this rare spot. There's one more thing to do before our salvage sailboat can once again be reunited with its keel. It's been months of grinding fiberglassing, sweating and crying. This force cracked the internal grid in several places and broke a portion of the grid free from hull. At some point an inspection was done, insurance was called and decisions were made. Headhunting was practiced on this remote island until the late 20th Century! After so long sailing amongst uninhabited islands and white sand beaches, we step ashore in Nias and get to experience the rich culture and heritage there. By chance we got to see a tribal war dance and demonstration of the stone jumping that the island is famous for. Sailing around the world is all about the people we meet and the rich cultural experiences that exist in each country we visit. We are a British couple who set off from England back in 2016 to fulfill our dream of sailing around the world on our 37ft sail boat, Florence. We are still sailing and along the way we share the live aboard lifestyle with the highs and lows of travelling around the world by boat, our own little tiny house. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V770 with a Rode External mic. My old camera is now my number 2 is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World.
