#outboardengineproblems #sailingbalearics #enginerepair While having fun in the water in a bay in Ibiza, our outboard motor starts leaking fuel so Woody has to take the whole thing apart while Irenka provides safety cover on the paddle board. Once fixed we head further South to shelter in the bay of San Antonio for the next storms due where we keep another close eye on the lightening strikes. Then we have to head all the way back to Mallorca for major engine repairs in an expensive marina so Yewan decides to take the opportunity to try an busk while Mum re oils the interior floors. When the engine work is complete, we wait for a weather window to head South to mainland Spain. In the middle of the WWII in the Solomon Island, the ground, and in particular the tank battle was fought by US Marines. Nearly 38,000 soldiers were killed in the Solomon Islands between 1942 and 1945, and the campaign proved to be a major turning point in the Pacific War with the Japanese troops’ retreat. This American Stuart tank lies in the same spot where it was immobilised by Japanese forces on Kohinggo Island in 1943. It is hard to imagine a place like Solomons, with a wild lust rainforest and sandy beaches to be fit tanks. Quite bizarre, isn't it? In this episode we sail from Brunsbüttle to Cuxhaven in Germany but we had not one but to disasters when docking first when we where about to move to the fuel dock in Brunsbüttle and one when we arrived in Brundsbüttle. We try to describe the situations and draw some lessons learnt. We are a middle aged couple that has left our hectic business lives to go sailing with our boat Fridá af Wisby and our cat Litza. The sailing in our home water the Baltic Sea is part of our preparation to sail to the Mediterranean Sea. Anders has been at the sea most of his life and sailed for the Swedish national dingy sailing team as a young man. Gitte has also grown up with boat and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager but made a pause of about 15 years without sailing as an adult, had just begun to pick-up the interest before she meet Anders 4 years ago. Onboard we also have our cat Litza a 3 year old Devon Rex we call her the cattain because cats always decide over their humans. Fridá af Wisby is a Wauquiez 47 pilot saloon that we Gitte and Anders bought in UK in 2019 and that we have sailed to Gotland and in season 1 2020 we sail in the Baltic Sea. Now we are going south towards the Mediterranean Sea.

The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. We finally manage to leave the Bahamas on a hurricane damaged 2015 fountain pajot Helia 44. We go through a few of the things I did to prepare for this passage across the Gulf Stream to Florida, but get pulled over by the cops on arrival. We weren't breaking any laws so I wasn't too worried. We then go to the shipyard ready to haul out and begin the repairs! Our sailing for the year gets cut short as we sail back to mainland Spain to winter the boat. Our initial plan was to sail throughout winter to Cyprus but after looking into all the restriction and with a second wave of Covid about to hit we quickly headed back so that we can spend winter with family.
