We are back in wonderful Hirifa and spend a few relaxing days on the beach with our friends from Yumyum. After the last days and weeks were quite exhausting, we decide to spend the next days only doing boat work in the mornings and spend the rest of the day together on the beach. This week we work on repairing our furling system that has been giving us trouble for some time. While up the mast Kieran finds a massive problem with our forestay. A very vital pin that holds up the forestay into the mast has worked its way loose. I (Isabelle) hoist Kieran for three straight days up the mast to try and complete the repair. With minimal experience around rigging we take on the task our selfs. Join our crew! We are looking for new crew to join in the future journey. How I smashed my 36ft sailboat into a reef doing 5 knots! This was my first time running aground and it scared the SH^&% out of me! I though she was going to sink! In this episode 19 of SVEV, I describe in detail how I made this huge navigational error! Learn from my mistake so maybe you don't do something similar!

We want to brighten up the interior and bring a more modern feel to the space. We tried to keep the traditional building style by planking up areas of the boat, but adding a modern touch by painting areas white. We had sanded back all the other woodwork which will be varnished in the future. It is important to do a really good job on the bulk head as we have changed this from wood to now be white. Since this is the first thing you see when you enter down the companion way, it must be perfect with no imperfections. This takes a WHOLE lot of time. Hours of sanding and priming then repeat. With a great foundation the first coats of the top coat area applied and what a transformation! With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off from Australia sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through New Caledonia, Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and then onto the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the years to come. With a new engine, we continued onto Thailand, then back down into Indonesia and specifically West Sumatra to live the island life and chase the surf. With our Sailing plans changing, we returned to Thailand to wait for the weather and begin our journey to the northern route of the Indian Ocean to Sri Lanka before heading south across the Indian Ocean once cyclone season has finished and the trade winds begin! We were on our shake down sail when the mooring we were on failed and our home ended up on the reef. We saved the old girl and got her back to the boat yard for repairs to continue on our adventure! Ready to sail across the Indian Ocean, we were only days away from leaving when the pandemic begun closing countries around us... We are stuck for now, but enjoying the slower pace as we have our first baby on the way to be born overseas! We departed the east coast of Australia in July 2017 and have since sailed over 10000nm offshore. We have explored some amazing countries and met some beautiful people along the way. We have experienced so many different and diverse cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our lives doing it! The adventure is just beginning as we sail West with the trades around the World! We finally put the tools down and spent the afternoon sailing to Grand Case for a bit of beach time. The first evening we treated ourselves to a huge (but cheap!) grill and the next day dove right in to our mini holiday... literally, as we went for a snorkel and then attempted an afternoon of two person paddle boarding... which sounded significantly easier than it actually was!! We had a great time and every now and then it's good for us remember that boat work isn't the reason we're out here and that we can just have a fun few days in the sun! Season 7 : Episode #172 : Exploring the Magic of Potato Harbor and Speaking with the USCG Hello Friends, On this weeks episode we sail off of anchor departing Prisoners Harbor on Santa Cruz Island with a light morning breeze and point for Little Scorpion to meet up with John Conway of SV Felurian. John and Alanna have started their own Youtube Channel and we encourage everyone to check out their episodes and subscribe : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCS9CLW7y5LqPQkvCyZp5I8w On our way to Little Scorpion we decided to pop into the very small anchorage of Potato Harbor to have a look and decide to drop a lunch hook and explore this beautiful little anchorage. While we were in the water the USCG hailed us on the VHF and John, heading to meet us, responded to their call and let them know we were safe and sound and where we were. A fisherman had recovered our adrift dinghy off of Sandy Point on Santa Rosa Island so the USCG had deployed its assists to look for us. Since we believed our dinghy never left the horseshoe bay of San Miguel we never even considered reporting it missing to the USCG. This was an important lesson to us and now we know to always report a dinghy missing if it is lost either at anchor or under tow. Thanks again to the United States Coast Guard for keeping all of us mariners safe! After our chat with the Coast Guard Cutter we made our way to Little Scorpion and rendezvoused with SV Felurian. Thank you very much, you guys are amazing supporting us with your likes and comments, we really feel that we have a new family out there. Much love Carla & Simon A little bit about us... We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it. Much love Carla and Simon
"One hand for you, one for the boat” is not just a cute poem, it’s something we all need to keep in mind when spending time on a boat. In less than 9 months we’ve seen or heard of 4 boat accidents, all of which could have been prevented including the one in this episode. We have sailed for 9 months and over 3500 nautical miles. Join us as we document our travel experiences, adventures and uncertainties that come along the way. 3 years ago we sat down as a family and shared a dream that we all wanted to see come true. A dream that we take a window of time in our lives to do something truly special together, an extended sailing trip, an adventure that would stay with us for the rest of our lives.
In this video, we stack the necessary blocks to fly our Parasailor on our Leopard 45 catamaran. We learned lessons along the way and got hands-on training on how to fly it from Parasailor USA.

After 4 years of planning we have finally set sail on our first passage from Port Annapolis MD to Carolina Beach NC. The sailing adventure has just begun! We hired an instructional delivery captain to come with us and we are excited to learn as much as possible in our 5-6 day passage! This Sailing Catamaran is a 1996 Fountain Pajot Venezia 42. She is a little dated on the interior but she is a very well equipped sailing catamaran and we are excited to take on the project of making her our home. Enough with the boat work, it's time to actually start sailing! In this postcard, we make it to New York City, where we go for a beautiful sail with Amandine's parents, before hitting the ocean for the first time! Bagheera handles well despite some rough conditions as we embark in our first overnight sail and make it to Cape May. Also, we had some fun and made a little intro for our videos. Designed by German Frers, the Hylas 46 is certainly a beautifully elegant and functional bluewater cruiser. On deck, the center cockpit, teak decks, wide transom, and cutter rig stand out. Below deck, the forward cabin and head design are perfect along with the large aft cabin accessible from both the port and starboard. This is the first Hylas I've been aboard, and I have to say, I'm impressed! This boat has quickly made it to the top of my list for the best bluewater cruising monohulls that I've been aboard. We're not afraid to jump into anything, put in the work, and learn as we go. We started out with Somnium, an O'day 272, moved onto Freebie, an Endeavour 32, and now are focusing on sailboat tours and working full time as teachers while we save up for our next boat. What a day! The story of the day was obviously the capsize from American Magic, and luckily nobody was hurt. At the time of filming the rest of the team was on the water in the aftermath of the capsize, so it’s just these two blokes in front of the camera talking about the day. This is an updated video with official footage, so enjoy! Live Sail Die Team Bradley McLaughlin and Chris Steele
C-CAT 48 est un catamaran robuste et léger, construit à l'unité à Rome, avec un design 100% personnalisable made in Italy. What a day...! It had everything, including a capsize from American Magic. At the time of filming this the rest of our team was flat out dealing with the aftermath of the capsize, so it's just these two blokes in front of the camera talking about the day. Enjoy! In this episode we explore the Isle of Shoals, a beautiful island located right on the border of New Hampshire and Maine. The next day we continue our journey further North, rising at 4:30 am in anticipation of a long passage. The early beginnings of our little Maine adventure shows promise with one of the most gorgeous sunrises we've ever seen. Our passage continues relatively uneventfully although Grace spots a whale and is just a little bit excited about it. Light and fickle winds mean we start out with our code zero sail and later switch to the spinnaker, playing with our newly installed tweakers. It's a long day on the water covering 85 miles and when we get close to our destination there is no rest for the weary when we are greeted by an incredibly dense minefield of lobster pots. It takes a team to navigate them successfully with Grace at the helm and Bill on the bow with his eye on upcoming pots. We're under sail which is good because we won't wrap the prop but a little bit challenging while dodging so many pots! 0:00 Intro 1:15 Recap 1:50 Dinghy Mission; Exploring Isle of Shoals 4:18 Swimming in Maine?! 4:49 Cooking a cozy dinner onboard 6:11 Early morning passage east and officially in Maine! 10:45 Playing with our light air sails 14:56 Holy lobster pots! ~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Thanks to our Patrons! # 83 lithium batteries & overhaul of the liferaft The jump is made, we have just switched to lithium batteries. We replaced our 1000 A / h of AGM batteries with 600 A / h of lithium batteries. We went from 250 kg to 50 kg, a gain of 200 kg. For now everything is working perfectly, it remains to be seen over time whether it will work out well. We also had our liferaft overhauled by a certified company, and I was able to film all of their work, very thorough and professional. It’s very interesting to discover the inside of a raft before you have to force re-enter it! And as always in the joy and good humor peculiar to Javerne. Thank you for continuing to follow us, and see you next week. Have a great weekend, and happy new year everyone.
