Most sailing cruisers wait for the right sailing conditions before going anywhere. There are times, however, when the wind dies and you have to bite the bullet and put the engine on. Overall, however, fuel consumption is low. When we took 18 days to cross the Atlantic Ocean we only used 4 gallons of Diesel and most of that was for running the generator! Today we took the apprentices on a day out to visit The Sutton Hoo ship replica, an Anglo-Saxon ship which was buried in the 7th century and is now being replicated thanks to the amazingly talented restorers at The Sutton Hoo Ship Company in Woodbridge, Suffolk.
