► Full test in Multihulls World N°202: https://www.multihulls-world.com/review/catamaran/excess-13-is-the-range-getting-its-second-wind ► We were able to take advantage of ten knots or so of wind off La Grande-Motte to finally test the Excess 13. The new Lombard design proved to be quite comfortable in these light conditions: it glided along at over 7 knots under gennaker and was just begging to stretch out its two wakes behind it. The Excess 13 was undoubtedly one of the most eagerly awaited World Premieres at La Grande-Motte... this model is indeed unlike any other, starting with the fact that it bears a somewhat risky name – but we love it! And almost as a punchline to complete the joke, 13 units were sold on the opening day of the show... More seriously though, the main new thing about this catamaran is the signature it bears. The Lombard design team has been at work here, in collaboration with Jean Marc Piaton for the interior design. We discovered a nacelle of contained volume (as evidenced by the very wide side-decks), a galley that opens onto the cockpit, and fold-down sugarscoops. We like the futuristic design of the davits and the imposing span of the folding helm seats and the airy design of their protective biminis. Also noteworthy is a water recovery system on the coachroof, easy-access circuit breakers (at last) in a dedicated locker, and cabin doors that double as closet doors. The Excess 13 is available in 3- and 4-cabin versions with standard or Pulse Line rigs. See our full test in Multihulls World #202, out at the beginning of June. ► TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Builder: Excess Architect: Marc Lombard Yacht Design Group Length overall: 42’7” (12.99 m) Beam: 23’9” (7.25 m) Draft: 4’10” (1.48 m) Displacement: 23,370 lbs (10.6 t) Sail area: 1,238/1,335 sq ft (115/124 m²) Engine: 2 x 40 HP Fuel: 2 x 53 US gal (2 x 200 l) Water: 79 or 158 US gal (300 or 600 l) ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 600 multihulls tests! Book your activity here : https://www.balireply.com/best-activity/unlocated/freediving-in-amed/ Freediving Level 1 Day 1 On the first day in the morning we have a theory class for around 2 hours where we focus in the following topics: Freediving disciplines: special focus to the ones we will see during the course Equipment: from head to toe what we use to freedive and the reason why this equipment will make you more effective underwater. Technique:  we divide the dive to explain how each part should be performed depending the discipline in order to conserve more energy. Equalisation: how do the air volumes react with the changing pressure underwater, which air volumes we have to equalize and what is the most efficient technique to achieve this. Breathing: prepare body and mind for the dive, things to do and to avoid while preparing to perform a breath hold (dive) Recovery breathing: proper breathing technique after the dive to recover properly. After the class we go in the water for 2 hours where we practice all we saw in the class, maximum depth of the day is 12m. Day 2 Similar to day 1, we will have a theory session of around 2 hours where we see the following topics: Safety: what makes freediving a safe sport, rules and how to always keep your dives safe. Rescue: how to do a rescue in case you face that situation. Pranayama: we practise some yoga breathing exercises as they help us improve lung flexibility, diaphragm strength and keep us fit for freediving. In the water (2 hours) we will put into practice everything we have learnt in the class. The maximum depth is 20m. The classes are very dynamic and participatory, we do a lot of practise of every aspect of freediving. The instructor always shows the exercises and makes sure it's clear. We don't focus on depth or time, we focus on relaxation, technique and equalisation, once you have this depth come by themselves. We adapt the course to the need of each student. To keep the quality of the course, we don't take more than 4 students per instructor. We are the only school that finishes all courses fun diving in the Liberty wreck that is amazing scenario to practise everything you learn in the course surrounded by colorful coral, fish, swim troughs, turtles and more. Definitely the cherry on top of the cake, make sure you bring your camera! The price includes  full equipment, certification and the fun dive at the liberty wreck. ADVANCED - Apnea Total The Advanced course is a three day intensive training in which you’ll be taking your freediving to another level: you learn different breathing techniques and different ways diving in order to become a more independent freediving giving you the tools to plan your own training. Day 1 Static The theory class is around 2 hours long, where we explain the MDR (Mammalian diving reflex), which is a series of reaction that happens in our body that help us to conserve oxygen therefore making our breath holds longer and safer. We do a couple of breathing exercises and breath  holds to work on new breathing techniques and mental strategies to perform a better breath hold once in the pool. In the water (2 hours session) we put into practice what we learnt in the classroom and practice buddy system and safety response. You will definitely be surprised by how long you can hold your breath and the power of your body once your mind has the right approach. Day 2 Exhale Diving You will learn a different breathing technique where you will work on isolating your breathing muscles and combining them to find your total lung capacity and work on your lung flexibility. This breathing technique is more suitable for deep and exhale diving. After the new breathing we will explain the reasons and benefits  of Exhale dives:  how and when do we exhale, how much we need to exhale and why is this a very recommended technique.  Students get surprised how deep and comfortable the exhale dives are. In the water (2hours) we put into practice everything learnt in the classroom, the instructor demonstrates each step for students to repeat. Day 3 Deep Dive We talk about deep dives, how to prepare for them mentally and physically. We also learn how to use visualisation as a tool to prepare the dives. We teach the students important stretching techniques for breathing muscles, equalisation exercises for deeper dives, tables to work on their carbon dioxide tolerance and low oxygen, apnea walks, among other exercises to improve your freediving skills. In the water (2 hours)  we put in practice everything that we have learnt in the classroom how to warm up and the deep dive, after we practise how to set up a buoy for training and how to perform a proper safety to a deep buddy. Price includes certification, full equipment and fun dive at the Liberty Wreck.
