? They are 7, 5 and 2 years old and their names are Nelson, Charlotte and Mathilda. They've just spent a week on board a Sunsail 454 (Leopard 45) from the Phuket base with their parents - two couples. ? "Embarking with the family on a multihull in Thailand is about offering the children an adventure they'll remember for the rest of their lives! Sailing out of Phuket, in the far south of Thailand, we headed for the paradise islands of the Andaman Sea. From the very beginning of the trip, the children transformed into little sailors, curious about everything: hoisting the sails, spotting the multicolored fish and diving into the waters of secret bays. Life on board quickly settled into a rhythm of swimming, playing on the catamaran's trampoline and relaxing while watching the sunset. Ashore, the children loved meeting the monkeys of Koh Phi Phi Don - even if these macaques, who come down from the surrounding jungle to scavenge for food from the tourists, can be a bit unpredictable. Our cruise was much more than a vacation, it was a timeless interlude where kids and grown-ups shared some unique times together. On November 27, 2018 we took the second carbon cutter out for a test sail. With only 12 knots of true breeze, the boat moved along nicely on a reach easily getting up to a speed of 8 knots.

Here's what powers Vela: ? 800Ah lithium batteries feeding our Lynx distribution panel. ?? Powers essentials like the 12V DC system, electric winch, anchor windlass, and oil heater. ? MPPT solar charger harnessing energy from the sun. ? 3kW inverter/charger providing AC power wherever we are. ? Future-ready: Plans to add a new engine generator for even more charging efficiency. ?? Fischer Panda genset (8kW) for backup AC power when needed. This system gives us the freedom to run big gadgets like a watermaker, induction cooktop, and maybe even a washing machine (coming soon in the new year!).
