We sail on the good ship Saracen, a Beneteau Oceanis 473 from 2006. Out journey started in Scotland in early 2023 and our ultimate goal is to sail around the globe …..slowly. These unique and interesting fish are known for their specialized adaptations that allow them to hitch rides to larger marine animals such as sharks, #whales, #seaturtles, and even #Mantarays. The modified dorsal fin possessed by these fish acts like a suction pad and is so unique, it is called a “sucker disc.” With this sucker disc, they attach themselves to their host’s body and eat parasites and dead skin, providing a cleaning service that benefits the host.
